Norwood League Match Report

Norwood has slipped to a second straight loss after going down to North Adelaide by 44 points in an ANZAC Round blockbuster.

On a warm day in Adelaide, the Redlegs trailed for the majority of the day, eventually being blown away in the final term. North had the better of the early stages as goalsneak Robbie Young kicked the first of the match inside the first minute of play. The Roosters early momentum allowed them four scoring shots in a row opening up a 14-point lead 10 minutes into the first term.

Norwood responded soon after as 2017 Magarey Medallist Mitch Grigg managed to kick his first of the match, before some delightful ground work by Luke Wilson allowed him to capitalise, reducing the margin to just two points. The Roosters despite Norwoods pressure claimed four goals late in the quarter and held a 20-point advantage at the first break.

Norwood started the second term in control as Luke Surman kicked truly from 35-metres reducing the deficit to 13-points. North new recruit Aidan Tropiano broke the Redlegs momentum soon after as he kicked a long running goal to hand the home side a 19-point advantage. Norwood however, weren’t able to capitalise on their chances kicking three behinds in a row before Grigg kicked his second just on half time rolling the ball through from 50-metres.

North started the third term how they left off, with Robbie Young kicking his third stretching the margin to 22-points. Declan Hamilton restored some faith in Norwood kicking his first of the contest eight minutes into the third however Lewis Hender and Alex Spina replied instantly.

North kicked nine goals to Norwood’s four in the third term giving them a comfortable 45-point lead at the last change.

Despite Norwood continuing to push forward in search for answers the Roosters ability to apply pressure and transition quickly was too much for Norwood to handle resulting in an eventual margin of 44-points.

Norwood will look to respond this Friday night as they face the Crows in an important Round 5 clash.

Norwood Reserves Match Report

Norwood’s Reserves has made it three wins in a row defeating North Adelaide by 43 points at Prospect. Full-forward for Norwood Mitch Carter did his chances of being called up to the League team no harm kicking six goals straight, while consistent performer Darcy Pisani continued his good form collecting 29 disposals. In what was a different side that faced Glenelg in Round three, the reserves controlled the match and were efficient in scoring finishing with three less inside 50’s (47-44) for the match.

New recruit for the Norwood Football Club, Mitch Wilkins played his first match of the year gathering 21 disposals and 6 marks, while youngster Chris Olsson pressed his claim for a recall collecting 24 touches and kicked two goals. Local recruit from Old Ignatians, Will Abbott also had an impressive game collecting 19 disposals and recorded a game high nine tackles in his defensive inside role.

It was another good overall performance from the Reserves who lead in most areas including tackles (49-58) and marks (76-104). The biggest margin of the contest came midway through the third term when the lead stretched out 59-points.
