CommunicaThon Developing Strategies to Raise Awarness

DRI, in conjunction with GYLA and ForSet, organized a CommunicaThon that brought together around fifty people from across Georgia to brainstorm on communication campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the causes and consequences of extreme political polarisation.

"Communication campaigns can spread the word and encourage youth to think about alternatives and possible ways out." - Nino Turiashvili, participant

After providing training to help participants understand polarisation, its consequences, and effective messaging strategies, DRI and its event partners supported the development of two social media campaigns that were designed and then carried out by participants.

Social Media Campaign #1: "Political polarisation may leave you single"

"The main aim of CommunicaThon Tbilisi was to find creative and innovative ways to increase the awareness of the Georgian public to the threats of extreme political polarization" - Nino Turiashvili

With support form the event hosts, Nino Turiashvili and Kristina Pitalskaya created the above video in which they tried to create a message that would appeal to youth while simultaneously communicating the far reaching consequences of polarisation on their society.

The campaigns saw major success on social media, with the above campaign receiving over 10,000 views on DRI Georgia's Facebook.

Social Media Campaign #2: "Polarized False"

This campaign consisted of a series of videos, followed by an offline campaign to show the video to students.

CommunicaThon thus fulfilled two major aims for DRI. In addition to spreading awareness of the issue of extreme polarisation, the event empowered local youth and civil society in creating their own initiatives.
