Ch 17.3-4 By Angie

Texas was focused on education in the 1850s.

They saved money to build school houses.

They also saved money to pay for teachers.

Most schools were one room schools.

Texas had slaves back then.

Most worked in cotton fields.

Some pursued different arts like blacksmith, leather makers, and shop keepers.

Texas soon argued about slaves.

Most politics were about which side to take in the civil war.

The slavery was a big debate.
