Homemade trail mix promotes allergy-safe snacks VALERIE DREYFUSS ’22

Trail mix is a versatile, satisfying and easy on-the-go snack to take with you wherever you are. However, this delicious treat lacks one component: being nut-allergy-friendly. As I have had a nut allergy my entire life, I have been taught to avoid almost any trail mix, due to cross-contamination and high risks, causing me to create my own version. I have curated a simple and of course, nut-free, trail mix to have any time of the day or bring anywhere with you, without having to worry about traces of tree nuts being inside.

The ingredients you will need are: 1 cup of pretzels of your choice (I prefer gluten-free), two cut-up dates, ¼ cup of toasted coconut flakes, ¼ cup of Purely Elizabeth granola, 1/4 cup of cereal of your choice and ⅓ cup chocolate chips.
Place the correct measurements of your ingredients in separate bowls. Due to preference, I crushed up my pretzels into smaller pieces.

The ideal method for mixing is to put all of your ingredients in a container, and mix it around with the container lid sealed. This will ensure that every bite contains different ingredients.
Next, put your mix in the refrigerator for an hour to ensure freshness.
Once your mix is cooled, enjoy this perfect allergen-safe treat with others.
