This is an exciting time to be considering joining our college community. Following our most recent Ofsted inspection in June 2012, we were judged to be outstanding in all categories: Achievement, Quality of Teaching, Behaviour & Safety and Leadership & Management. As an ambitious and aspirational college, committed to continual improvement, we have continued to build on this success.
This is an exceptionally exciting time for a candidate to join the college. The College’s £17 million Capital build has been completed giving the College additional resources including a large performance hall, new dining facilities, larger music department, dance studio, new library and English and maths classrooms. Phase two of the project provided a new and convivial reception area, new offices, the large Henry Morris hall and conference space as well as a Trust central office suite.
In September 2016 we became part of the Anglian Learning Trust and continue to enjoy the increased opportunities for collaboration and career development that working in collaboration brings. We are one of 8 local schools within the trust established to create a strong community of highly successful schools committed to achieving outstanding outcomes for all. This development provides us with opportunities to enrich the educational experiences of all our students as well as enabling us to benefit directly from the ideas and strategies that have proved to be successful elsewhere. The ethos and day to day running of the college remains unchanged; we continue to be committed to our role as a fully comprehensive college, determined to meet the needs of all members of our college community, so that they can leave us having:
- achieved their full potential, both academically and socially;
- developed a passion for life-long learning;
- developed the skills and attributes that will enable them to live successful and fulfilled lives, making a valuable contribution to our wider society, as global citizens.
In April 2013, we became a designated teaching school. We are one of the two lead schools in the Anglian Gateway Teaching School Alliance which is a growing network of primary and secondary schools in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. We work together to shape the future of teacher training and professional development and to improve the life chances of all our learners.
We are very proud of our wider role as a community college and we emphasise this strongly to our students because we want them to leave the college able to play positive roles in their own communities. We offer many opportunities for students to take leadership responsibility. As college council members, mentors and buddies, for example, students have a vital part to play in the life of the college.
We have very high expectations of all students with regard to behaviour and attitude to learning. Our code of conduct ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’ is based on mutual respect and is underpinned by a series of core rights and responsibilities. We achieve outstanding results in all areas; you will find details of our examination results later in the prospectus. In addition to the core curriculum there is a wealth of extra-curricular activities on offer to students at Bottisham. These include trips both home and abroad and a strong programme of arts and sporting clubs. One particular highlight is the Year 7 annual camp which provides long lasting memories.
