3 Ways to #BeTheHero

NEA-Salina President Jonathan Eshnaur

1. 7 Reasons Why to Connect...

2. Celebration! Each year the members of NEA-Salina in partnership with the Salina Education Foundation award one elementary educator and one secondary educator with a $500 scholarship for advancement in a master’s or doctorate degree in the field of education.

Secondary Teacher Scholarship Recipient Kate Lindsay

South High Theater Teacher Kate Lindsay (center) celebrates with her students after being surprised.

The NEA-Salina Scholarship Committee receives and reviews all scholarship applications from the Salina Education Foundation. The scholarship committee then sends all applications with names removed to each NEA-Salina Officer for individual rankings. Finally the scholarship committee reviews all scores and determines the winners. Thank you goes out to Katrina Paradis for her hard work this year.

3. The Kansas Legislature will reconvene on Monday, May 1st. Two important issues still need to be resolved before the end of the session. The first legislators needs to pass a comprehension and long-term school finance formula that will provide our students with the schools they deserve. Second, legislators will need to find a way to solve the budget deficits and pay for increases in school funding. Keep any eye on Topeka; our representatives may need to hear you with emails from your home computer and phone calls encouraging them to support our students.

The next Salina Chamber of Commerce Legislative Forum is Saturday, May 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the Chamber Annex.

Make sure you take some time this summer to relax and recharge!
