key voyages- september 20th,1519 set sail from spain to find a western sea route. October 21st,1520 he finally found the strait he'd been seeking

Where did he go? He went across the pacific ocean. Found the strait of Magellan. Also went from spain to portugal.

Best known for his expedition from Spain in 1519, when he evenntually discovered what is now known as the Strait of Magellan & became the first European to cross the Pacific Ocecan.

The land he diiscoveered is now a navigable sea route separating mainland South America to the north and Tierra del Fuego to the south.

Interesting facts:

-expedition had a multinational crew

-Magellan was considered a Traitor of Portugal

-gave Pacific Ocean its' name

-only deserves partial credit for circumnavigation

-his slave was more than likely first person to truly circumnavigate the globe
