How to use ZOOM a quick and easy guide BY aARON gRIFFIN

Here is a quick step-by-step guide for how to use Zoom.

Hi, I'm Aaron, I am not as technical as some but I can work Zoom. Here is a really quick user guide for you to get you up and running with Zoom. I hope it is helpful.

Set up using zoom? At the bottom of the page are some hints and tips about making life easier on yourself.

If you are using a mobile phone:

Download the app for Android or IOS:

You should then see the screen below, you can join a meeting by hitting the "Join a Meeting" button.

You can change settings by tapping the "gear" icon in the top left of this screen.

Then you will need to enter the Meeting ID (which should be given to you if you're joining someone else's meeting) and then input your name below.

If you can join with video then do, it may take a few seconds for audio to work.

If you are stuck, here is a helpful video which can answer some questions:

If you are using a computer:

You will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a link in an invitation to a zoom meeting.

Now you can watch the video below:

Please note: It is polite to be muted when someone else is talking. It stops feedback and background noise interrupting the person speaking.

(It also means that when someone sneezes it doesn't shock everyone on the call!)

Paws for questions:

Will it work on a tablet?

Yep, it works on most devices.

Do I need a webcam?

Yes, ideally. But if you're using a mobile phone or tablet then most come with a video camera already installed. Most webcams come with microphones too so you will be able to be seen and heard. Your laptop may also have a webcam already installed, that will be fine.

Can I have a play before hand to check things are working?

Of course! It is a very sensible thing to do! If you open up zoom and hit "Start a Meeting" you can check there if your settings are working.

How much does it cost?

It is free for two people to chat for as long as they want! If you want to have a meeting with more people then you have a maximum time of 40 minutes.

I am stuck! Where do I go?

A great place to start is the Zoom Support Website. It is very clear and easy to read. Start there and see if you can find what you're looking for.

Hints and tips about making your life easier on Zoom:

Gallery View: View more people on one screen!

On an iPad you can have up to 9 people showing at once. You just need to touch the screen during a call and then press the button shown on the picture in the box below. On a phone you need to swipe right to see more people in the call. On a desktop or laptop you can get up to 49 screens on one page! To do this you need to:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom programme on windows or IOS.
  2. Click Settings (the cog on the top right), and then click Video (on the left of the settings page) to display the video settings page.
  3. Enable the option "Display up to 49 participants per screen in Gallery View". Note that if your computer does not meet the CPU requirements, this option is unavailable.
This isn't me! It is a Zoom user called Nancy!

My microphone is muted?!

You may join a meeting and be muted. This is because the person hosting the meeting has made sure people don't join the meeting and interrupt the content with noise. To unmute yourself you can hit the space bar on a keyboard which will temporarily unmute yourself (this can be switched on or off in the settings). Or you can click on the button that looks like this:

It will likely be on the top left of the screen or the bottom right.
It is much better to remain muted unless you want to speak. Especially on big calls, it means when someone sneezes, coughs or gets interrupted it doesn't get sent to everyone in the meeting.

I really want to share my screen!
