Nick Vujicic a contemporary prophet

Nick Vujicic is a 34 year old Australian man living in Los Angeles, working as an evangelist, running his own company that gives strength to people by sharing his own experiences of hardships and realising God is with him. There is one thing that is different between ourselves and Nick, that is he was born with a condition called Tetra-Amelia syndrome; this condition means that Nick was born without arms and legs.

Biography

On the morning of 4th December ,1982, the day Nick was born his parents were quite surprised to see there new-born baby without arms and legs. When Nick was born it took his mother three months to accept him and the fact that he had no limbs. Nicks dad declared him handsome and this eventually persuaded his mother to take him home. Nick grew up in Melbourne, Victoria. Nick was not allowed to attend a main stream school. Nick and his family challenged Victorian schools policy and was finally accepted at a main stream school. Nick not only dealt with the typical challenges of school and adolescence, but he also struggled with depression and loneliness. Nick constantly wondered why he was different than all the other kids. He questioned the purpose of life, or if he even had a purpose”( Life Without Limbs.)

In 2012 Nick married the love of his life Kanae Miyahara. They have two children named Kiyoshi James Vujicic and Dejan Levi Vujicic. Nick never thought he would find someone who would love him the way Kanae does.

When Nick was 32 years old he became the founder of the Los Angeles based organisation, Life Without Limbs. Through his organisation Nick gives motivational speeches. He gives hope to others who are born with challenges other disabilities

“If you can't get a miracle, become one.” ― Nick Vujicic , Life Without Limits

What does Nick do?

Nick is an evangelist. An evangelist is a person who seeks to convert others to the Christian faith, especially by public preaching.

Nick is the founder and president of an organisation called ‘Life Without Limbs. Nick also owns a motivational speaking company called ‘Attitude is Altitude’. Their mission statement is “Your attitude determines your ability to succeed". How you respond to challenges, approach change and deal with difficulties—even how you think about yourself—are all key factors in success, both in life and business. Attitude is Altitude is on a mission to spread a message of inspiration around the world. Through live events, keynote speeches, online resources and inspirational products they aim to reach out to people across the globe. Their focus is to demonstrate that whatever your circumstances, you can "make positive changes and overcome life's challenges” (Attitude is Altitude).

Nick's is the founder and president of Life Without Limbs.

Nick is a good person to promote this site because he is spreading his motto that no matter what you look like you are beautiful on the inside and outside. This is a positive message to promote. Living in our society in 2017, many teenagers have a problem accepting themselves for who they are, thinking they need to change something about themselves. Nick believes and spreads the word that God will help you through all the hardships in your life and God will always be there for you. Nick also tells people that “I have the choice to be angry at God for what i don't have, or be thankful for what I do have” . I believe he is trying to spread the message not to blame God, but to believe that God knows what is best for you and take God in every step of your life.

What is a Prophet

A prophet is a person who spreads the word of what God says is going to happen.

There a many contemporary prophets in our world these here are a few examples:

  • Malala Yousafzai
  • Father Chris Riley
  • Pat Framer

These aren’t all the prophets in our world there are many others. All of the prophets in our world share the word of God through different environments and reasons. A prophet in our world is someone who is doing something to help others and spreading the word of God through these messages.

Why is Nick a prophet?

He is a man with severe disabilities and instead of blaming God he has decided that he will make the most of what he has been given. He inspires others to reach their goals through a belief of God. As well as encouraging those with disabilities he also incorporates and preaches the word of God to people with disabilities or challenges in their lives. Nick is a prophet because he believes that God has chosen him to work with people and to spread the word of God and to love yourself. Nick is saying that if you put your trust in God he will guide you and help you through difficult times. Nick is preaching the same word as Isaiah who was a prophet from the Old Testament.

Isaiah

My chosen Old Testament prophet that I have linked Nick Vujicic to is, Isaiah. The reason I chose Isaiah as the linked prophet is because “he was a prophet of faith and pleaded for trust in God, not in military alliance” (Jacob Soerensen, Margaret Boyle and Barbara Brodbeck, 2012). I believe this message is similar to Nick’s because instead of being angry at God for not having any limbs he has decided to show his faith in God by preaching the word to others with disabilities.

Isaiah is a minor prophet of the Old Testament. Isaiah was born in the 8th century BC and grew up in Jerusalem, Israel. It is said that Isaiah had found his calling as a prophet when he saw a vision in the year of King Uzziah’s death.

This verse that I have chosen is on that I believe relates to Nick Vujicic

Isaiah 40:31

"but those who hope in the LORD

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint."

Isaiah 9:10

“The bricks have fallen down,

but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
