Kickin’ It...Over and Over Again
Joey Cornwell was called upon 11 times to punt in Saturday’s game. He averaged 39.9 yards per boot over those 11 attempts, including a pair of 50-plus yard boots. He unfurled a career-long 59-yarder in the process. The 11 punts were the most in a single game for the Green Terror since 2004. Cornwell is currently third in the conference in average punting at 38.1 yards per kick.
John Chamberlin led the McDaniel offense once again last week. He ran the ball 16 times for 63 yards. In the first quarter, the senior ripped off a career-long 52-yard scurry that set up a Green Terror field goal. It was the longest run by a Green Terror back since 2015. That run and an Isaac Murray 27-yard run earlier in the quarter accounted for more than half of McDaniel’s net yards on offense. Chamberlin currently leads the CC in rushing (87.0 ypg).
The Green Terror has scored on seven of its eight trips into the red zone this season. Half of those trips have resulted in touchdowns while McDaniel is also 3-for-4 on field-goal attempts. The Green Terror defense is holding its opponents to just a 50 percent conversion rate inside the 20. Of the four times an opponent has reached the red zone, they have gotten into the end zone just twice.
