Cooper's bright idea for charity

What hairstyle would you give Cooper?

Year 3 student Cooper Finnegan has been working on an independent learning project. He has researched a charity (the Starlight Foundation) and decided to raise some money for them. He has organised to leave a donation box at the front office for people to place a donation into. If you place a donation of $5 or more, your name is placed on a ping pong ball. At the end of the fundraising time a ball will be drawn and the winner will choose Copper's new hairstyle! He is willing to have his (pretty long) hair cut into any style chosen by the lucky random draw winner. Good on you Cooper for showing such wonderful initiative and trying to make a difference! We are proud of you.

Helping Hands Notice of Suspension of Service

Helping Hands have announced that their service will be suspended as from the end of this term due to lack of adequate enrolments to justify staying open. This means Vacation Care will also be unavailable. The service has indicated that they will review the option to reopen during Term 4 when they will once again survey families (including 2018 Kinder parents) for interest. If they do not believe the service can be sustained they will close completely. Unfortunately with the lack of success of one OSHC service, there will unlikely be another to replace it anytime in the near future.

I would like to thank all parents who did use the service and I am sorry that the service could not continue. I would also like to thank the educators who have worked in the service over the past 6 months, especially Megan Cole who is a wonderful teacher.

PSSA Regional Swimming - Dapto

Congratulations to our Tathra team who travelled the distance to compete in the PSSA Regional Carnival on Tuesday. Our reps were Cheslea Hoare, Taia Creary, Molly Greenwood, Maya-Rae Navarrete, Carly and Heidi Van Bracht, Evie Balnkenstein, Breanna Dixon, Liam Chandler, Tom Clark, Kai Morgan and Lochie Ellard. Everyone gave the best of themselves as usual!

Thank you to Mrs Robyn Hoare who went with the team and to the parents who supported the team with transportation and encouragement! Well done team on your efforts!

Pedlar's Parade 2017 - Inspirational person from the past or present

The Pedlar's Parade is an annual dress up day at Tathra Public School held just before we break for the Easter holidays. It is a major K-2 fundraiser for the year as traditionally K-2 students have paraded and brought goods to sell at a stall. The theme has been chosen this year to complement the K-2 History unit of work that focuses on past and present.

Money from the day goes towards purchasing resources to support classroom programs. Over the years older students have wished to participate and this has been encouraged however the amount of sugary treats last year, boosted by the older students adding to the goods for sale, was a little overwhelming! To reduce this we have decided that K-2 will provide the “goodies” while older students provide a 'service' such as face painting, ring toss, guessing competition, disco, etc. Year 3 – 6 students will discuss their options with their teachers. If you have a great idea, please suggest it to your child or child's teacher so it can be raised in class discussion.

School Garden Program

Yesterday we had a visit from Karen Walker from the Far South Coast Landcare Association who worked with teacher Dan Bakker and our students to propagate Black Wattle, Longifolia, Floribunda and Lomandra for upcoming Eco-Verge planting. The students got approximately 800 seedling cells underway! Excess plants will be donated to FSCLA for regional sustainability projects and to other garden program schools. The Green Team (made up of interested Stage 2 and 3 student volunteers) also started to landscape the garden!

Easter Raffle (Stage 3 fundraiser)
