UCM, Summit Technology Academy Discuss New Aerospace Academy Partnership With Lee’s Summit City Council Partner To Launch Avionics Program
Lee’s Summit City Council members were updated on the Missouri Innovation Campus Aerospace Academy during an Aug. 18 meeting. The Academy, a partnership of UCM and Summit Technology Academy, will begin with the 2021-22 school year and will serve high-school juniors and seniors as well as college students. Through the Academy, students will be prepared for high-wage, high-demand jobs in areas such as avionics, aerospace engineering, aviation maintenance, unmanned/drone pilot, professional pilot and military aviation.
An Aerospace Academy Advisory Board -- which includes education leaders, industry experts and regional stakeholders -- is working together to develop a meaningful curriculum and enhance the talent pipeline for qualified workers. Presenters at the recent meeting included Dr. Jeremy Bonnesen of Summit Technology Academy, Joe Mullins of UCM, Mike Adamson of Aircraft Electronics Association, Bob Hartnett of the City of Lee’s Summit and Dr. David Buck, Lee’s Summit R-7 superintendent. Mullins and Bonnesen are leading the project.
Hangar 1 Parking Lot
Due to an increase in corporate aircraft at the airport, the parking lot located at the Hangar 1 FBO is nearing capacity on a daily basis. Current improvements to the parking lot will provide additional parking spots and easier access in and out of the FBO for passengers and crews. As the project progresses we will provide additional updates.
