What's Happening at Timbers?
We Want to Be Tardy-Free!
Pennies for Patients
Please join us in fighting childhood cancer! We are collecting Pennies for Patients to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in finding a cure. Every morning from September 3rd through September 26th scholars can bring pennies to school to drop in their grade level Coin Collector. The grade level that collects the most pennies will win a Popcorn Party! If you would rather donate online, please click here.
Humble ISD GT Referral Assessment Window
The Humble Gifted and Talented referral window is now open! Students may be referred for GT testing by parent(s), peers, teacher(s), other professional personnel, and/or themselves. Starting this year, there will be an online district testing portal. This portal will only be open during the assessment window(s) and will include parental permission to test, evaluate, and receive gifted program services. Parents of students who have been referred by teachers or other staff will be contacted to complete the online referral form. No student may be denied access to the Humble ISD Gifted and Talented Program on the basis of race, creed, or handicapping conditions. Referrals should be completed in the online portal on the Advanced Academics website. The portal will be available and open during the referral window (Grades 1-12: August 26 - September 27; Kindergarten: August 26 - December 20). You may access the District Referral Portal by clicking this link: Online Referral Form
Field Trip Payments
Parents have through September 30, 2019, to pay field trip fees through RevTrak. If you have not already paid your child's field trip fees, please click here to make payment.
News from Fourth Grade
This week our fantastic fourth graders will be sharpening their Portrait of a Graduate skills of collaboration, communication, creative innovation, and critical thinking as they work in teams to build model BMX racing tracks. They will have the opportunity to Skype with a BMX racing professional and are visiting the new BMX Race Park on Wednesday. This great opportunity is being provided in conjunction with the Houston Sports Authority. We can't wait to see what our scholars create! The racing tracks will be on display at our Academic Night in October.

Houston Zoo Partnership
We are excited to announce that Timbers Elementary is partnering with the Houston Zoo! This year we will be participating in the Houston Zoo’s Adopt a Mascot program. The Adopt a Mascot program connects our scholars with local and international Zoo partners that are saving wildlife, and engages scholars in wildlife-saving actions (such as cell phone or paper recycling that tie directly to grade level learning standards). A zoo representative will be visiting Timbers several times during this school year to interact with scholars and to help kick off our mascot study.
Our first zoo campus visit will be on Wednesday, September 17th. The zoo representative will be bringing out several small animals for students to learn about that share the same habitat as the timber wolf. Scholars in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and the Gifted and Talented Program will participate in the first campus visit and will have the opportunity to touch the animals. The zoo will be bringing out animals for other grade levels later in the school year.

First Responders Luncheon
We appreciate all of the work our first responders do every day to keep us safe, and we were honored to be able to celebrate several of them last week at our First Responders Luncheon!
We are inviting all dads, stepdads, grandads, and other male father figures to be a part of our Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer group!
Step 1: Before participating in the program, all volunteer father figures will first need to complete an official Humble ISD volunteer application and background check online.
Directions to Volunteer Application: Please visit www.humbleisd.net, select “Departments” from the main page’s toolbar. Next, select “Community Development." Then, select “Volunteer in Humble ISD” located on the left side of the screen. Finally, select “Click here to start your application today” to begin the volunteer application.
Step 2: You will receive an email once your volunteer application has been approved by the district. You will need to contact Ms. McCoy at 281-641-2000 to verify the status of your application and to select an ideal day/time you would like to volunteer. (Note: There will be school days that we will not be able to have WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteers.)
Step 3: On the day of your volunteer work, you will check in with the front office. Then, you will have a mini orientation and will be given your daily schedule. It is imperative that all WATCH D.O.G.S follow their schedules.
Thank you for your interest! Timbers greatly appreciates you!
Grades K-2 and their older siblings are back car riders. Grades 3-5 students without younger siblings are front car riders.
Parents may begin eating lunch with your student this week! Please check in at the front office to receive your visitors pass and then wait at the guest table for your student to arrive. Please note that while outside food may be brought for your child, it cannot be shared with others.
When your child(ren) are absent from school, you must call the absence hotline at (281)641-2019 for each day absent, and send a note to school the day they return. If the school does not receive a phone call or note from a guardian, the absence is considered unexcused.
Parents may purchase a frozen birthday treat for their child’s class during their lunch time. Frozen treats may be purchased from the cafeteria for 75 cents each to be distributed after the children finish their lunch. Please notify the cafeteria at (281) 641-2008 one week prior to the event in order to have enough treats on hand for all interested. If parents wish to bring cupcakes to school, they may do so. However, please ensure that the treats are store bought as well as notify the teacher two days in advance so that the teacher has ample time to contact the parents of those with allergies arranging for an alternate treat. Parents may drop off the treats at the front office so that birthdays may be celebrated the final 20 minutes of the school day. As a reminder of district policy, students are not permitted to pass out party invitations at school.
