CDMC AGM - February 24, 2019

CDMC's 2019 Annual General Meeting

RSVP today for the CDMC Annual General Meeting taking place February 24, 2019 at the Evergreen Seniors Centre (downstairs of the Florence Filberg Centre on Anderton Ave). We need our members to come out and help us elect board members for the 2019 CDMC Board of Directors and review our 2018 year. All members in good standing are invited to join us for the AGM and to take part in helping to create the future of the CDMC.

If you are interested in joining the CDMC Board of Directors, we would be very excited to hear from you! Up to nine positions are available for nomination. If you would like to become an integral part of "what makes the club tick", come to the AGM and have someone nominate you to join the Board!

Doors open at 6:30pm, meeting will start at 7:00pm. Watch your email for 2018 reports coming to you for review prior to the meeting. A lovely presentation by Tom and Donna Dukart will follow the meeting.

Positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer along with Membership director, Trip director, Social/Events director are filled after the AGM at the first Board meeting.

Director roles are outlined on the CDMC Meetup page here: CDMC Executive and Volunteers

Calling all volunteers!

The CDMC is run by volunteers - people who are interested in using their time, skills, and abilities to keep our club interesting and active.

A recent survey by CDMC members tells us you are interested in attending group hikes, trail work events, hiking-related courses (navigation, first aid, etc), environmental interests for club members, social activities and gatherings once or twice a year, gear swaps, and fundraisers to help support our members and events.

We hope to be able to add as many of the items as possible to the event list this year, and to support this, we are looking for volunteers who can help the Board members plan and organize these kinds of events for the CDMC.

Please use the Feedback Form to contact the Board if you have ideas for events and would like to help put those ideas on the events page for the CDMC, or email comoxdistrictmountaineering@gmail.com.

April 28, 2019

Last year, our CDMC Snow to Surf Team had an amazing time participating in this fun race event across the Comox Valley. We are looking at registering for the upcoming 2019 Snow to Surf race, and will be asking for members to JOIN OUR 2019 SNOW TO SURF TEAM!

2018 CDMC Snow to Surf Team - 4th in our division!

Watch the CDMC Meetup Events page for your chance to register and race with our team. We will also need members to help our racers get to and from their race legs, and to help cheer us on!

2019 Membership Dues and Waivers

We would like to remind you that your 2019 CDMC membership dues are now payable online or by cheque in person at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on February 24 (cheques are not accepted any other time). Dues for 2019 must be paid before April 1, 2019. CDMC 2019 Waivers are also due for all members, so please complete your 2019 Waiver at the time of your payment.

We are updating our register of members and will be sending an email to all members to update or confirm the contact information we have for your membership record. When you receive this email in the near future, please take a moment to check your details and let us know if anything needs to be updated.

CDMC Member Feedback Results

In late 2018 the CDMC members were surveyed to develop a sense of the strategic directions the club should focus over the next few years. Six directions were presented. 30 members out of 130 responded.

To no one’s surprise, 27 respondents indicated “hiking” was Number One.

19 members stated that trail building & maintenance was Number Two. The reality today is that we are not building many new trails in Strathcona Park, so the emphasis is trail maintenance.

12 indicated that Leader Training and Development was Number Three, followed by Education where there were 10.

8 members indicated that Environmental Stewardship was Number Five and 3 expressed a wish for Socials.

Given we are a volunteer organization; we hope that this data will build a solid base from which to increase member participation and support in years to come.
