Swift County Fair
The Swift County Fair is held at the fairgrounds in Appleton every year near the middle of August. There is something for everyone at the fair. There are 4-H shows and displays, a delightful midway, a bingo tent, a exotic petting zoo, and tons of friendly people, of course! It's a time to relax, enjoy the events, dance, sing along to great music, learn, and meet new friends.
Town and Country Days in Kerkhoven is festive and fun for adults, children, and families. There is food, a kiddie train, a parade, a classic car show, a firefighter water fight, a street dance, and even a dunk tank. With so much to do, Town and Country Days should not be missed.
Applefest, unsurprisingly, takes place in Appleton, and happens in early fall. It kicks off with a meal and school reunions on Friday, and by Saturday there's everything from a craft and antique show, to a rock climbing wall, camo face painting, and live music. There's even fireworks! Sunday there's more activities, and several community meals.
A wonderful way to discover the beauty of Swift County is at the Swift Falls County Park. It has a beautiful stream and dam that make the park lush and green. The park is great for camping, for having a picnic or an event, and even fishing!
The Swift Falls County Park is located along the Glacial Ridge Trail, a scenic byway that winds along lakes left behind by the huge glaciers that scraped across what is now Swift County, and so much more of Minnesota.
Monson Lake State Park
Monson Lake State Park provides 346 acres of adventure with wetlands, hardwood forests, and of course, Monson Lake, and a portage to West Sunberg Lake. Go fishing, hiking, birding and learn the history of the park as a site of the 1862 U.S.-Dakota War.
If you're looking for a day in the park, but also want to stay in town, the Ambush Park in Benson, or Riverside Park in Appleton are both wonderful. Ambush Park has picnic shelters, a playground, and even free Mini-golf. Plus, it's not far from Benson's swimming pool! Riverside Park in Appleton is also beautiful. It is situated on the Pomme de Terre River, and has a playground, restrooms, a picnic shelter, and access to lovely walking and biking trails. Be sure to cool off in Benson or Appleton's Aquatic Centers!
