Carl Sandburg High School Physical Education Department believes that our primary goal is to enhance the quality of life in our students. We believe that every student can achieve excellence regardless of size, maturity, coordination, body type, or other physical capability.

Fitness and Nutrition is an interdisciplinary course taught by the Physical Education and Family & Consumer Science Departments. Students incorporate hands-on laboratory experiences that promote healthy behavior management aimed at achieving personal goals.

Challenge Education - Students become proficient in adventure-based activities, interpersonal communication, group dynamics, leadership skills and environmental awareness. Group support is encouraged to develop a willingness to try and the realization that success is personal. Activities include: team building/group initiatives, kayaking, and rock climbing skill development.

Strength & Conditioning: Students learn the function, location, and the proper means to develop various muscle groups in order to improve their overall fitness level. Students will learn and develop various cardiovascular training methods through the use of aerobic machines and other facilities in order to improve cardiovascular performance.
