Covid-19 College Induction

IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING APPLY TO YOU, DO NOT COME IN TO COLLEGE

  • You have received a positive COVID-19 test result in the last 10 days. If you have you must report this immediately to the Head of Health and Safety by calling 07540728655. In addition you must complete the online reporting form accessed via any of the College websites.
  • You are symptomatic and awaiting a COVID-19 test result.
  • You have been advised to self isolate through the NHS Test and Trace Scheme.
  • You have a new continuous cough.
  • You have a high temperature.
  • You have a recent loss of sense of smell or taste.
  • If you or someone you live with has any of these symptoms – please follow official Government guidance.
  • All staff, students, visitors and contractors must report all positive COVID-19 test results using the online form accessed via any of the College websites.
  • The online form is for the reporting of COVID-19 related related absences only.
  • If in doubt please contact the Health & Safety Team.

Change

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have had to make some changes to the way in which we operate and how you navigate around the campus.

This induction provides an overview of what you need to do to stay safe.

Travelling To College

Public Transport

  • Try to sit away from other passengers, try to avoid touching the handrails and seats etc, avoid touching your face particularly your eyes, nose and mouth, use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Follow Government guidance for face coverings.

Independent Travel

  • Where possible, walk or cycle to College.
  • Where possible maintain social distancing in the car parks across all sites.

Staff - Arrival On Site

  • The wearing of lanyards/ID badges remains compulsory.
  • Wash your hands or sanitise when arriving on site and regularly during the day.
  • Where possible, doors have been left open.
  • Movement through corridors and on stairwells should be kept to the left hand side.

Students - Arrival On Site

  • Full on site teaching provision is available.
  • Blended learning is still being utilised where the members of teaching staff have deemed it appropriate.
  • The wearing of lanyards/ID badges remains compulsory.
  • Wash your hands or sanitise when arriving on site and regularly during the day.
  • Where possible, doors have been left open.
  • Movement through corridors and on stairwells should be kept to the left hand side.

Asymptomatic Testing Program

The College fully supports the rapid asymptomatic (not displaying symptoms) testing program in line with government guidance, all staff and students are strongly encouraged to participate.

Anyone displaying symptoms need to follow government guidance and obtain a PCR test.

Staff and students are strongly encouraged to undertake twice weekly lateral flow home tests and report all results positive, negative or void to the NHS and the College via our online reporting system, this can be accessed via the main college websites.

Staff test kits can be obtained from the onsite test facilities at The Hub, North Lindsey College and UCNL reception.

Student test kits are available from the Learning Resource Centres at North Lindsey College and The Hub, and also UCNL reception.

For those unable to undertake home testing we have onsite testing facilities available at North Lindsey College and The Hub.

Keeping Safe At College

The best way to prevent transmission/spread of COVID-19 is to:

  • Frequently wash your hands for 20 seconds.
  • Use sanitiser if hand washing facilities are not available.
  • Avoid touching your face, particularly eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Maintain social distancing requirements.
  • If you cough or sneeze, catch it in a tissue and bin it.

Lift Use

  • Where possible, please use the stairs.
  • Sanitiser stations at access points.

Escalators (Doncaster only)

  • Stay to the left side of the escalator.
  • Where possible maintain social distancing between the user in front.
  • Do not overtake on the escalator.
  • Sanitiser stations at access/exit points.

Workshop/Practical Areas

  • Individual areas have their own risk assessment, these form part of the return induction.
  • Where applicable, stores areas will be accessed and managed by staff only.
  • The door is to be propped open on student arrival and departure.
  • All work benches/equipment/surfaces to be sanitised before and after use – this is to be carried out by area staff and students.
  • All equipment usage to be controlled/issued by area staff.
  • Where possible equipment will be assigned to the individual for the duration of the session.
  • Cleaning/sanitising stations are available throughout the corridors, at entrances and in teaching areas.
  • Where possible, windows will remain open to aid ventilation.
  • Where applicable ventilation rates have been increased.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE

  • Existing PPE requirements remain the same.
  • All PPE should be disposed of appropriately.
  • Additional PPE bins will be provided.
  • Reusable PPE will not be shared and must be sanitised before and after each use.

Face Coverings

  • Government guidance on face coverings in public spaces should be followed.
  • Face coverings are a personal choice, however we strongly encourage all staff, students and visitors to wear a face covering in communal areas and where social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • The expectation is that you will provide your own face covering.

Classrooms

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water and use the hand sanitiser stations that have been sited across the campus.
  • Where possible, windows will remain open to aid ventilation.
  • Where applicable ventilation rates have been increased.

Your Mental Health & Wellbeing

  • Everybody's wellbeing is paramount, and safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
  • The Safeguarding Teams are available for support, information and guidance.
  • Resources and materials are available via the College intranet.
  • All safeguarding concerns should continue to be reported immediately to the Safeguarding Team.

First Aid

Emergency action notices are displayed throughout all the buildings, please remind yourself of these when arriving on site. To obtain first aid assistance:

  • North Lindsey College call the first aid mobile 07824 605057 or in an emergency call 999 or get someone else to do this for you and then call a first aider.
  • Doncaster College call 3933 or 01302 553933 and ask the reception for a first aider or in an emergency call 999 or get someone else to do this for you and then call a first aider.
  • UCNL call 07881817078 and ask the reception for a first aider or in an emergency call 999 or get someone else to do this for you and then call a first aider.
  • You will notice your first aider may be wearing additional protective equipment, do not be alarmed, this is for their protection and yours.
  • Anyone presenting with COVID-19 symptoms that cannot leave site immediately will be taken to an isolation room for treatment or to await collection.

Accident/Incident Reporting

All accidents and incidents that happen on site or on/during official college activities should continue to be reported. This can be done by logging into your SafeSmart Smartlog account and selecting the 'Report Accident' option on your dashboard.

Fire Safety and Evacuation

Emergency action notices are displayed throughout all the buildings, please remind yourself of these when arriving on site.

  • Evacuation procedures remain the same.
  • Fire doors are not to be wedged/propped open.
  • Close all doors as you leave the building.
  • Do not use the lifts or stop to collect belongings.
  • Do not go back into the building until you are told it is safe to do so.
  • If you are unable to evacuate by the stairs please let a member of the H&S Team know so we can conduct a personal emergency evacuation plan with you, email hands@northlindsey.ac.uk or health.safety@don.ac.uk

Welfare Facilities

  • Catering facilities are available at Doncaster College (The Hub), North Lindsey College and University Centre North Lincolnshire.
  • Where possible and weather permitting breaks should be taken outside.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and use the hand sanitiser every time.

Smoking

  • At North Lindsey College smoking is in designated areas only.
  • At The Hub and UCNL smoking is outside on public land, please keep all entry and exit points to the building clear.
  • You are advised to remove your mask completely whilst smoking, this means taking it off and storing it.

Visitors

  • All visitors must sign in on arrival and out on exit at reception.
  • Visitor information displayed in all reception areas.
  • Where possible send visitor information to them prior to their scheduled visiting date(s).
  • As the host you are responsible for ensuring your visitor(s) has read and understood the information.

Contractor Management/Control

  • All contractor activity must be authorised/arranged through the Estates Department.
  • All contractors must sign in and out at the Estates Office.
  • Contractors are required to undertake a separate induction.
  • Contractor risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) must be submitted and agreed prior to arrival on site.
  • Contractor works will be monitored by Estates and Health & Safety.
  • Unauthorised contractors will be removed and/or refused access.

Employer Activities

Apprenticeships, work placements and training delivery

  • Please adhere to site specific control measures.
  • Undertake any external induction as required.
  • Be in receipt of the employer DNCG Covid-19 declaration.

Partnership Sites

  • Our partnership sites are adopting rigorous controls as set out in their own risk assessments and that of DNCG.
  • Upon arrival at a partnership site please ensure you undertake their site induction.
  • Compliance will be monitored by the H&S Team.

Enforcement and Compliance

  • All staff and students are responsible for ensuring they adhere to identified control measures.
  • All staff are responsible for ensuring identified controls measures are promoted, encouraged and enforced in their own areas and whilst on site.
  • Blatant disregard of the identified control measures will lead to the immediate removal of the individual.
  • Disciplinary procedures will be initiated as appropriate.
