The Cycle of Death Slaughterhouse Five

1. “When a tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments.”(pg. 27)

2. “It is so short and jumbled and jangled, Sam, because there is nothing intelligent to say about a massacre. Everybody is supposed to be dead, to never say anything or want anything ever again. Everything is supposed to be very quiet after a massacre, and it always is, except for the birds. And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like "Poo-tee-weet?" (Pg.19)

3. “The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at a funeral.”(pg 26-27)

4. "And even if the wars didn't keep coming like glaciers, there would still be plain old death." (Chapter 1, pg. 4)

5. "If what Billy Pilgrim learned from the Tralfamadorians is true, that we will all live forever, no matter how dead we may sometimes seem to be, I am not overjoyed. Still--if I am going to spend eternity visiting this moment and that, I'm grateful that so many of those moments are nice." (Chapter 10, pg. 211)

An Ode To Death

The end of all our despair

The thing that clears the air

When all is wrong or all is right

Death will come to meet you in the night

In the shadows is where he shall wait

Don't bother planning an escape

Because when death grabs you by the neck

You'll be nothing but a worthless speck

Death lives inside us all

Instilling fear that makes us crawl

If you are to put up a brawl you will surely fall

For when he enthralls all listen and glisten

To wait for what it is he christens

There is no way to avoid what is to come

Which is humanities dreadful fate

But until that date what do you say

We cherish every day and let the world be gay!

The End
