Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center 'Sports & Athletics'

N.A.Y.S. Start Smart: Beginning Saturday, April 13 through Saturday, May 18, this National Alliance of Youth Sports structured 6 - week development program will focus on teaching children, ages 4 to 8, the skills of throwing, catching, kicking, and batting. Program does encourage parent involvement. $15 per child / 6-week session. www.mariettaga.gov/parksrec

Tumbling: Learn how to perform forward & backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, roundoffs, back handsprings, front handsprings, standing back flips, front flips, rebounding flips, combination flips, twisting flips, and double backs. $12 daily rates, $50 per 5-week session. Pickleball: Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center offers Private, and Semi-Private/Group Lessons, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Saturday Night Pickleball is from 6pm - 7:45pm. Private Lessons are $30 per session and are scheduled on an individual basis. Semi-Private/Group Lessons are $10 per session. Saturday Night Pickleball is $5 per person and is offered to all ages who want to learn the game of Pickleball. Brazilian Futsal Academy: Improve your footwork and skill with the Brazilian Futsal Academy at Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center. Futsal is a format of five-a-side football that is played extensively throughout the world. The term ‘Futsal’ is an abbreviation of the Portuguese ‘futebol de salão’ or the Spanish ‘futbol sala’, both of which translated literally means ‘indoor soccer’. By working indoors in a smaller space with coaches who are currently national futsal players, youth players will see an improvement in their level of play. Futsal is the game for everyone. Breakfast with the Easter: Bunny Join us on April 20, from 10am – 12pm, at Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center for breakfast treats, activities, crafts, and photos with the Easter Bunny in an up close and intimate setting. $8 City of Marietta residents. $10 Non-City residents. American Sign Language: Learning ASL will allow you to communicate using the 3rd most common language used in the United States. ASL is now recognized as a foreign language at the collegiate level and is offered in more high schools now as a foreign language. Learning to sign can open many opportunities for growth in both your personal and professional life and it’s a lot of fun too! $15 daily rates, Beginner and Intermediate Classes available for $85 monthly. Dancing 4 All: Have more fun out of life, relieve stress, burn calories and gain confidence on any size dance floor at weddings, summer concerts, parties, at formal and informal events alike! Each class includes at least 1 or two party/ line dances as well as one slow and one fast partner dance. These dance classes allow the group to have a vote in the type of dances covered within the course. So bring all your friends, wedding party and family members for influence! Kids Night, Fun Night: Similar to Parents Night Out. The participants of this night of fun will be provided a pizza dinner while also enjoying, craft activities, and a variety of sport and fitness related activities and games. Gem City Summer Camp: Get your GAME ON! Join us May 28 – July 26, at Custer Parks Sports & Fitness Center for 8 themed weeks of field trip adventures. (There will be no camp the week of July 4.) Campers will show off their creativity through arts and crafts, get fit with structured circuit training activities, and have fun while discovering parks in their own back yards. $75 for Regular Hours, 9am - 4pm, and $20 extra for Extended Hours, 7:30am – 6pm. $100 Non-City residents. Play-Well TEKnologies Spring Workshop: Belt and Pulley Cars - How can we make our LEGO® cars go? Introduction to transmissions and gears to make a car that races across the room. Dancing Stars Summer Dance Camp: Coach G. implements fun fitness, balance, coordination and dance related games, which condition the body and mind. Together we’ll develop stage presence, combine moves, technique and dance styles into confidence boosting. Your child can improve their dance skills and learn a few new dance styles as well! Ask the Trainer: Meet with a Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center’s Certified Personal Trainer, keynote speaker, or a group fitness instructor to discuss the month’s “wellness hot topic”. Sessions will be in a small group setting and participants can ask questions, attend a group fitness class, and enjoy a sampling of healthy snacks. $5 per person. Fit Pass Certification for Teens: This program will teach growing teens the importance of proper fitness exercises in a safe and fun environment. Once SUCCESSFULLY completed, participants will be allowed to utilize Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center’s Cardio Room and fitness equipment without parental supervision. April 9 - May 2. Kilometer Kids: Atlanta Track Club's Kilometer Kids is a free, game oriented running program designed to get kids (ages 7 to 14) in the community active! The mission of Kilometer Kids is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle to area youth through a running-based program, empowering children with the knowledge they need to make smart lifestyle choices. Cumulative training will result in registration for a Fun Run, 1K, or 5K race entry, to be paid for by the participant. F.I.T.T. Orientations: F.I.T.T. (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type) principle outlines how to manipulate workouts to get in shape & get better results. Meet with a Recreation Specialist to learn how to use the exercise machines, get a circuit workout plan and ask nationally certified personal trainers for advice. Orientations are FREE. Personal Training: Nationally certified personal trainers are ready to be a part of your wellness journey. Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center's diverse trainers specialize in general health & fitness, Senior Adult strength & conditioning, sports-specific training, and more. Cardio Boxing: An awesome total body workout that uniquely blends the power, speed and agility of Kickboxing but without the kicks. The last 20 minutes of the class is set apart for strength training which tones and sculpts your body while Cardio Boxing does most of the shred-ding! STEP Tabata: This class is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, featuring 8 cycles lasting four minutes each and using a Step for greater exercise variations. Tabata training uses a protocol of 20 seconds work and 10 seconds rest. It improves athletic performance and acts as an excellent catalyst for fat burning. HIIT training is one of the best and most effective ways to lose weight and get in amazing shape. Offered at Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center on Thursdays, 6pm. Ages 12 and older. Glow Fitness: Organized by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the City of Marietta has committed to celebrating with NRPA by hosting “Glow Fitness”. Bring your whole family to play glow dodgeball, relax in sessions of Flow and Glow Yoga, compete in a Hot Shot Basketball Contest, and the youngest party goers can enjoy our Kidz Glow Dance Party! This event is free and open to the public. Families participating in this year’s Family Health & Fitness Day can share their photos online using the hashtag #NRPAFamilyFitDay.
