(P)The UNIA was founded by Marcus Garvey in 1914 to help people of African descent more recognition and rights in America.
(S) Marcus Garvey played a crucial and Influential role for the Blacks with African descent in America in his time and his goal was to unify all Blacks in america throughout the 20th century.
(P)Marcus Garvey's views were very similar to those of Booker T. Washington's thinking that Blacks should become more economically dependent to gain more recognition and respect in America. Marcus Garvey tried to push for Black Nationalistic ideas in almost everyone with African descent.

(P)Marcus Garvey needed a way to put his point of view out to the world so He founded the Negro World Newspaper in 1918. This newspaper was deemed as impressive and thought provoking even through Garvey's opponents and was a successful way for Garvey to Trumpet his ideas around the world.

(Direct Quote)Garvey believed economic development among African Americans was critical for overcoming white oppression. He saw the Black Star line as an opportunity for African Americans to manage their own business venture, employ and serve persons of color, and offer financial investment opportunities. Shares of the company's stock originally sold for $5 apiece and could not be purchased by whites. Garvey assured investors they would see near boundless returns.
