William Shakespeare is believed to have been born on April 23rd, 1564 in Stratford-Upon-Avon, United Kingdom... Tradition states this, though it is impossible to be certain the exact date he was born. In the 16th century, Stratford-upon-Avon was important because it was a place where ¨money could be made¨ and this is why young John Shakespeare (William's father) came.

CAREER

The King's Men acting company and The Lord Chamberlains Men where the acting companies that William Shakespeare belonged to for most of his career. He wrote for both establishments.

ROMEO AND JULIET

Romeo and Juliet is a timeless play. It is believed to have been written by Shakespeare between 1594-1595 in his early career. His story is about two young lovers who run into tragedy. This was Shakespeare's most popular play during his life, along with Hamlet. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most performed plays today.

THE GLOBE THEATRE

The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company, The Lord Chamberlain's Men. The original Globe Theatre was destroyed in a fire during a performance and was then rebuilt using the old theatres remaining timber.

DEATH

William Shakespeare died in Stratford-upon-Avon, the same place of his birth. Shakespeare died on his birthday April 23rd, 1616. He was 52 at the time of his death.
