The Lakes School News August 2021 Teaching children to climb their own mountains

A warm welcome to our summer holiday newsletter which contains a number of useful updates along with important details about how you can help us prepare for a smooth start to the year on Thursday 2nd September 2021!

Exam Results

Once again, we send our warm congratulations to all of our A-Level and GCSE students who recently received their exam results and now move on to Sixth Form at The Lakes, College, University or Apprenticeships. We work hard to ensure that all Lakes School students have high aspirations for themselves and that they are able to follow a path that they find inspiring. It has been wonderful to see Lakes School students work so hard to achieve the grades that they very much deserve; grades that will set them up for an exciting future.

Thank you once again to so many parents for taking a moment to send heartwarming messages to staff. Every message is shared with all of our staff and it is true to say that your kind words are hugely uplifting. Thank you!

Start of Term Arrangements: Almost back to normal!

We look forward to welcoming all of our students back to the Lakes School on Thursday 2nd September 2021. For Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13, school starts at 8.45am as normal with registration in their Tutor Group room. A reminder that our green pedestrian entrance near the dining area is locked at 8.40am so please ensure you are inside the school grounds before then.

Year 12 students can make their way to the Sixth Form area before school. At 8.45am, Year 12 students should meet Ms Rainey in the Library where they will receive their timetable before heading off to their Tutor Group.

On the 2nd September, our new Year 7 students should come through our main reception doors as soon as they arrive at school from where they will be directed through to our main hall to meet Mr Cunningham. After a short assembly, Year 7 students will then be shown to their new Tutor Group rooms - from then on, the day will fly by! Woosh!!

After spending registration and lesson 1 in Tutor Groups, all students will begin lessons at 10.00am which is lesson 2 on the timetable.

We are really looking forward to what should be a smooth start to the year after managing so much uncertainty in recent times. Parents can view their child’s timetable, or calendar, in the Arbor Parent Portal and each child will received a paper copy of their timetable on their first day.

Please read on to find out how you can help your child prepare for their first day on 2nd September...

Coronavirus Arrangements

When students return in September, we will be keeping in place some of our previous Coronavirus arrangements to ensure that the school is as Covid secure as possible. The one way system will remain in place, at the end of the day students will continue to leave via the exit near the MUGA, face masks should still be worn in the breakfast and dinner queue and hand sanitiser and table wipes will be available in classrooms.

Please keep your child at home if they present with Coronavirus symptoms. As normal, please then secure a PCR test and only send your child in to school when they have tested negative or completed their period of isolation. Thank you.

There will be no onsite Lateral Flow Testing at school when students return but we need your help to ensure that students complete a test at home before their first day back at The Lakes.

Please can you carry out a Lateral Flow Test with your child on Wednesday 1st September 2021 to ensure that they are Coronavirus free before coming in to school on Thursday 2nd September 2021?

Where can I get more Lateral Flow Tests? You can collect LFD test kits from many local outlets such as pharmacies and health centres. Click the link below and type in your postcode to find a collection site near you.

Alternatively, you can pop in to reception at The Lakes School from Monday 23rd August onwards and simply pick up a box or two. Reception will not be staffed so please just pop in and collect a box of tests.

House Branding

Over the summer, we have been busy working with our website designer, Michael Webster, who has helped us to brand our three House groups. Don’t they look fantastic! The logos will be seen around school, on certificates and awards and will provide an important addition to our House competitions at The Lakes School.

House branding that captures the essence of The Lake District.

Uniform Collection

Further to our letter at the end of the summer term, here is a quick reminder that if you have already pre-ordered uniform from Coniston Corporate, you can collect it from them at The Lakes School between 10am-12pm on Tuesday 17th August and Tuesday 24th August 2021.
