Shakespeare's Great Life

Thesis: One of the most famous playwrights William Shakespeare had a great life through his youth, middle, and later years, and influenced poetry forever.

Youth Years

Quote #1: "His father, John, was a shopkeeper and a man of some importance in Stratford and man of some importance in Stratford, serving at various times as a justice of the peace and high bailiff." (Anderson).

Commentary #1: This quote shows that Shakespeare's father was a major role model, and and a big influence and shaped him to who he is today. Also, This good influence probably made him want to provide entertainment to everyone.

Quote #2: "In 1576, outside the city walls of London, an actor-manager named James Burbage built the first permanent theater in England". (Anderson).

Commentary #2: This quote shows that James Burbage could have been one of Shakespeare's to make a permanent theater. Also, The walls outside of London made it hard for some people to get in and that is probably why he let all people in.

Quote # 3: "While little is known of Shakespeare's boyhood, he probably attended the grammar school in Stratford, where he would have been educated in the classics, particularly Latin grammar and literature."

Commentary #3: This quote shows that this may be where Shakespeare found his love for writing and literature. Also, This can explain his higher level grammar choices in his plays.

Middle Years

Quote #4: "In 1582 Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, eight years his senior and pregnant at the time of the marriage. They had three children: Susanna, born in 1583, and twins, Hamnet and Judith, born in 1585."

Commentary #4: This quote shows that before he was a full time poet, he was happy with two children and a loving wife. Also, He was fortunate to have enough money to support three children.

Quote #5: "In 1594 Shakespeare became an actor and playwright for the Lord Chamberlain's Men, the company that later became the King's Men under James I."

Commentary #5: This quote shows from Shakespeare's many years of an actor that Shakespeare was very serious about his acting career. Also, his acting career shaped the outcome of his life.

Quote # 6: "However, various suggestions have been made regarding this time, including those that he fled Stratford to avoid prosecution for stealing deer, that he joined a group of traveling players, and that he was a country schoolteacher."

Commentary#6: This quote shows that Shakespeare also had an adventurous lifestyle as well. Also, the fact that he could have been a teacher could suggest his academic style in his early plays.

Later Years

Quote #7: "This year marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s sudden death at the age of 52."

Commentary #7: This quote shows, that shakespeare had an influence on people for many years. Also, This shows that with such a short life he was still able to inspire many generations to come.

Quote #8: "In 1599 he became a partner in the ownership of the Globe theatre, and in 1608 he was part owner of the Blackfriars theatre."

Commentary #8: This quote shows that Shakespeare's career has just begun as a playwright. Also, this shows that people wanted him because they felt he was successful.

Quote #9: "Shakespeare retired and returned to Stratford c.1613. He undoubtedly enjoyed a comfortable living throughout his career and in retirement, although he was never a wealthy man."

Commentary#9: This quote shows that even though he made little money had retired happy knowing he did what he loved. Also, the fact that he's was able to retire 4 years before his death means he made off fairly well.

Quote #10: "Following the success of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream the previous year, his only son, Hamnet, died at the age of 11." (Kate).

Commentary #10: This quote shows that Shakespeare's life was not always a happy one, and this darkness in his life can be found in some of his plays around the time of Hamnet's death. Also, this means that his son could never follow in his footsteps.
