WHAT THEY DO

Software engineers apply their knowledge on computer science, engineering, and mathematics to design and develop computer programs and applications. This profession is extremely client-focused and software engineering often communicate with clients throughout the development process to ensure the end product meets expectations.

WORK CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

Software developers work for firms that deal in computer systems design and related services or for software publishers. Developers work closely with computer programmers. In some companies, developers write code themselves instead of giving instructions to the programmers.

JOB OUTLOOK

Software engineers/ architects employment rates are expected to rise 17% from 2014-2024 which is much faster than the occupants. Employment of applications developers is projected to grow 19 percent, and employment of systems developers is projected to grow 13 percent. System developers are likely to see new opportunities because of a increase in the number of products that use software.

EDUCATION

A Software engineer is required to have a graduates degree but most Software architects you see strive for their Bachelors degree. Schools that you can study software engineering are Software Engineer College and even Jacobs University.

I chose software engineering because i am interested in the science and math part of the job.
