Event Topic

This is a year long learning group that meets monthly from September to May to learn and grow around the area of thoughtful technology integration. Topics will include technology frameworks (TPACK & SAMR), lesson planning with technology, blended learning, and various tech tools that can be used with students. Attendees will focus on a line of inquiry related to their work and share out their learning at the end of the year.

Instructor Presence

Below is the welcome video sent out to all teachers in the district. Once teachers applied and committed to the program they were sent a welcome email with dates and locations of all face to face meetings.

Communication Strategies

The EdTech CoP will use a Schoology group to communicate. All members will be able to post and respond as needed. Messages, reminders, and updates from me will be sent via Schoology.

Strategies to Build Community

Face to face meetings will start with a sharing session where teachers will connect with someone new and share what's working or what's not working with tech integration in their classrooms. A list of topics for future learning will also be generated during this time. Within the Schoology media albums, teachers can upload photos and videos of students using technology with short descriptions of the activity, assignment, or project. Discussions will also be used as a way for teachers to ask questions of each other in between face to face meetings.

Teachers collaborating and learning together!

The activities during the face to face learning time involved teachers participating first as a student for exposure, followed by learning about the tool/strategy as a teacher. The following are some of the topics teachers engaged in and learned about during the face to face meetings:

  • SAMR
  • Intro to blended learning strategies
  • Generating an inquiry question (site-based)
  • Digital Citizenship
  • Collecting feedback from students
  • Digital assessment tools
  • Sharing and publishing tools
  • Digital portfolios
  • Online communities for students
  • Tools to enhance engagement in lessons

Depending on interest generated from the initial sharing sessions, the learning portion of the meeting time would be in small groups based on choice or whole group which then broke off into smaller groups for the hands on learning.

At the final face to face meeting in May, teachers will get into small groups to share their experiences. We will have green screens set up for them to create short, fun video reflections if they would like. At this final meeting, we will also discuss ways they can continue their learning by staying active on social media and connecting in the Schoology group.

Follow Up

Teachers in the EdTech CoP have support of their site coaches to help them on their tech journey. They can also sign up with me for in class demos and modeling, as well as planning and brainstorming help.
