Pearl Harbor

On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes bombed the base of Pearl Harbor in the Hawaii territory.

Many tourists from Japan come to visit the memorial. Americans and Japanese pay their respects at Pearl Harbor. Today, Japan is one of the America's strongest allies.
The battleships were bombed in the harbor. Some of them sank and some were damaged. They destroyed the U.S.S Arizona and U.S.S Oklahoma.
More than 2,300 Americans were killed 1,178 were wounded. The Japanese lost 65 men and more soldiers were captured by the U.S..
The Day after the attack, President Roosevelt gave his famous speech to Congress. He called this tragic ambush “a date that will live in infamy”. After the speech, the USA declared war on the Japan.
