Is-Land island Is-land is your land

Part 1.

What dangers do you see as a person stranded on this deserted island. Be specific and explain your answers.

There could be many dangers on Is-land stinging coral or the rocky northern mountains or the pasture of animals even the shortage of water. This island has many things to watch out for especially the smaller island the land bridge is filled with sharp rocks and the island itself is untouchable its very rocky and treacherous.

Part 3

Create a list of characters from the novel The Lord of the Flies and add details about them using textual evidence from the novel.

1.Ralph 12 years old (10). Rude. does not ask piggy his real name(11). He is voted chief. 2.Piggy age 10to12. Fat. Only character that wears glasses. Has asthma. 3. Jack 11to12. Wants hunters. likes rules. has knife scared to use it(31). 4.Simon part of the choir. fainted at the meeting. vivid. skinny. 5. sam and eric. young. twins. they repeat their names. annoying. 6. Roger silent. furtive. no one knows him. kept to himself.

part 4. Rules

1. Travel in 2+

2. Don't go out at night

3. Share resources

4. Clean up after yourself

5. Communicate effectively

6. Do your job

7. Do not kill each other

Jack wants a set of rules on the island on our island we have ten rules the most important is travel in groups of two or more. What makes traveling important is survival there could be many obstacles or dangerous wildlife on the island having a person with you means you can get past theses if you need to move a tree branch to get across something having that extra person will always help or you're being attacked by an animal four hands is better than two.

Part 5. Theme

One of the themes of this novel is survival. Explain why the setting of this story adds to or contributes to the theme.

The theme of Lord Of The Flies is survival on the island rules have been put in place to make survival less of a challenge but some of theses rules have been broken making survival harder. The setting of the story is on an island there are no adults just a bunch of young English kids who have no idea what there doing. Being a bunch of kids they have to figure out what to do and everyone has to work together. This will really develop the story and probably have some unseen plot twists.

Part 6

Ralph has said, “This is a good island” (Golding 35). Ralph’s pronouncement will prove ironic; it is definitely NOT a good island. What problems do readers already know about? Explain why these problems prove this is NOT a good island after all.

Some of the problems the kids are having shows that this isn't a good island. All the kids have to eat is fruit until the hunters find a pig they have limited resources. All the problems foreshadow that future events might not be good.

Part 7.

Symbols are physical things that represent abstract ideas. The following are some of the symbols from the novel The Lord of the Flies.

Meat symbolizes the temptation the boys face on the island.

Smoke represents the possibility of rescue.

The platform symbolizes democracy because they make the decisions

Painted faces symbolizes the feeling of anonymity the boys have.

Simon symbolizes goodness because he bring the kids together

The conch represents law and order because they cant speak without it.

Piggys glasses symbolize survival because they helped start the fire.

Piggy symbolizes civilization because he is trying to create one.

The island symbolizes isolation because they are on their own on a remote island.

Part 8.

Describe the Beast that seems to be stalking the island. Use the text as backup for your info.

The island the boys are on seems to have a ghostly presents stalking them the younger boys see it in there dreams and feel like they see it when they wake up. Percival thinks it comes out of the water it seems that the "beast" is messing with boys dreams and making them scared and thinking its a ghost. Then it flips now the twins describe the beast as having wings and claws with lots of fur.

Part 9.

Name at least two things the boys are doing or have given up that show how they are now operating on instinct and no longer trying to follow the rules of society. Explain your answers with information from the text.

1.The group if you can even call it that now seems to be slowly giving up on some of the rules they set since they crashed on they island. From the start Ralph has said the fire must always be lit him and only a few others even care about rescue now and the kids in charge of the fire are being careless.

2.Another thing they are giving up on is the conch in the current chapter jack and others completely ignore the rule of only speaking with the conch. It seems they are slowly going to forget about more rules until they are completely helple

Part 10.

Two rituals people are most familiar with are weddings and funerals. Pick an event (a wedding or a funeral). Make a list of at least 3 phrases people use at the event you picked. Using one of your phrases, explain why your phrase is helpful in the situation.

3 phrases from a wedding are "I do" "you may kiss the bride " and "are there any objections". The phrase I do is probably the most important thing in a wedding because there is no married couple without it. Somebody in the wedding might object but that's there opinion if the two getting married don't agree at that moment it would be very confusing because they have probably been together for a while. In conclusion I think the phrase I do is the most important phrase at a wedding because they wont be married if one doesn't say it.

Part 11.

Choose a character, either Ralph or Jack and explain the effect seeing the Beast has on the character you have chosen. Use textual information to support your answer.

Ralph has seen what he thinks is a beast with a rotten faced and wings. This beast has had a major effect on Ralph and how he is acting. Ralph thinks the beast is staying by the fire so they cant be rescued. This has caused Ralph to break a major rule and he now has a fire on the beach. This is strange because last time they had a fire that wasn't on the mountain it burned a part of the island and killed a child. The beast has also scared Ralph and the kids in his group to the platform they are staying in that area and not going in the forest. The beast has isolated Ralph to one part of the island and split the group so the island is a lot more dangerous to the kids.

Part 12.

Retell in your own words what has happened to Simon. Use textual evidence to help you create a vivid paragraph.

In the current chapter Simon has just passed out in his hiding place and woken up with a bloody nose. When Simon leaves the spot he sees the body up on the mountain and the parachute making the rotting body bow up and down. Simon untangles the parachute from the body and looks down and sees the fire on the platform. As Simon is walking to the camp jack is starting a dance and gets all the boys worked up. When Simon walks out in the open one of the little boys says HIM HIM!! and Simon tries to tell them about the body but they think Simon is the beast they attack Simon and beat him to death and his body is dragged into the ocean by the tide.

Part 13.

In life people create groups. These groups might be at school, in sports, in extracurricular activities, and through religious organizations. Explain what needs groups fill for people. Explain both the positive and negative aspects of being part of a group. You may relate this to our novel, or you may make it a person reflection of your own experience.

Part 14.

“Which is better - to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?”

Using this quote, take a stand. Pick a side and explain why your decision is best on this island here at the end of Chapter 11. Don’t forget to use textual evidence to support your answer.

I think having rules is better. In a group without rules there are so many things that could go wrong as they have in the book. With rules people have less of a chance to get hurt or die. In Jacks group there are very little rules and its gotten people killed Simon and Piggy. With Ralph's group they had rules that made sure there was always a chance of rescue and people didn't get hurt. Jack has gotten 2 killed stopped them from getting rescued stolen and beaten his own group member. After all that I think a group with rules would be way better .

Part 15.

The quote I picked is from piggy. "What more can he do than he's already done". At this point Jack has done so many terrible things on the island and to piggy. Piggy doesn't think any more harm can be done to him so they try to get his glasses back. While they are on the land bridge they get caught by jack coming back from hunting. Piggy doesn't think Jack or his group can do anything more to him but he was very wrong.Roger pulls the rock lever and the huge rock kills piggy. This was expected by the reader but not by piggy and that's what makes this book good the character never knows when something will happen to them.

Part 16.

Dear future student of Mrs. Lyda's class close to the end of the year you will read the Lord Of The Flies. The l.o.t.f is a book about a group of British school boys who's plane crashes on an island and they must work together to get off the island. Some of you will really like this book some of you will hate it and some of you might not care. I thought this was a great book the plot was good and it has a lot of foreshadowing. There is a couple of things i didn't like about the book. For starters how did the boys survive this plane crash you get no explanation on that they just show up completely fine. The deaths in the story are very easy to guess the characters who die could have easily survived by making better decisions. My last problem with the book is the ending i don't want to spoil it but the boys are rescued out of the blue. The scene is very action pact then all the sudden a navy ship shows up o save them. Other than these three things i thought this was a great book and i hope you enjoy it.
