Why do people celebrate easter?

Christians celebrate Easter for entirely different reasons than most people do. Two thousand years ago, God sent His only Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life, and to die for our sins! But Jesus did not stay dead; He rose from the dead! We are actually celebrating Jesus’ death for our sins and His resurrection. That is why many people call Easter, Resurrection Sunday, because that is exactly what it is.

When it is celebrated?

Easter and the holidays that are related to it are moveable feasts which do not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian or Julian calendars which follow only the cycle of the sun; rather, its date is determined on a lunisolar calendar similar to the Hebrew calendar. The First Council of Nicaea (325) established two rules, independence of the Jewish calendar and worldwide uniformity, which were the only rules for Easter explicitly laid down by the council. No details for the computation were specified; these were worked out in practice, a process that took centuries and generated a number of controversies. It has come to be the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon that occurs on or soonest after 21 March, but calculations vary in East and West. In 2017, the Easter is on Sunday, April 16.

3 ways to celebrate Easter as Christains

1. Attend Easter services. Almost every Christian church will offer an Easter service on Easter Sunday. Exactly what the service will consist off will vary depending on your church. However, attending any Easter church service can be a good way to focus on the Christian messages that accompany the holiday.

2.Read the Easter story in your bible. Taking some time on your Easter Sunday to read over the Easter story can be a good way to focus on the meaning behind the holiday. Reminding yourself why the holiday is celebrated can help you to engage more fully with your faith and its traditions

3.Focus on the personal meaning this holiday has for you. Attending a church service or reading over the Easter story can both be great ways to focus on the meaning of the holiday. However, taking some time on your Easter Sunday to reflect on the personal meaning of the holiday can help you discover what it means to you.

3 ways to celebrate Easter at home

1. Cook something tasty. Easter Sunday usually means time with family and friends. Beyond spending time together it can be a lot of fun to share great home-cooked meals with one another. Think about making one of your favorite meals, treats, or snacks to share with those close to you.

2. Spend time with family and friends. Holidays are great opportunities for us to spend time with our loved ones, enjoying the time together. Easter Sunday is no exception and it's a wonderful time to enjoy with your family. Make some plans with your loved ones to make your Easter together a great one.

3. Have an Easter egg hunt. An iconic part of Easter is the Easter egg. These highly decorative eggs are often used in a fun scavenger hunt where children try to find the most of the hidden Easter eggs. Whether you're hunting for the eggs or hiding them, having an Easter egg hunt can help make your Easter an enjoyable one.
