What is the basis of your identity?

The basis to your identity is in your Father.

What does the Father say about you?

Genesis 1:27 - "You are made in God's image." (NIV)

Isaiah 43:1 - "You belong to your Father." (NIV)

Ephesians 1:3-8 - "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will– to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding." (NIV)

Ephesians 3:14-21 - For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! You have a choice.

Identity has to do with your will. It's your choice to accept the Father's opinion of your identity.

The Father's love provides both a definition and an opinion of who you are.

You only know who you are when you accept and agree with the Father's design of you.

Remember the history of the Israelites.

The Israelite identity was that of a slave.

God gave them a new identity.

Israel constantly fought this new identity.

Complaint against God and disagreeing with your God-given identity will always hold you back from your inheritance, from all He has called you to. Learn from the Israelites (1 Cor. 10:1-13; Heb. 3:7-14).

Racial Identity

Ageing Identity

Write the sum total of your identity. Then take time to thank God for it.

Accepting the Father's love (choosing to accept His design of you) provides security for your identity.
