These two women attended a Antislavery Convention in London when they were told to keep their mouths shut about slavery because they were women. They were mad and later hosted a women's rights convention in New York. In these days, women could not vote or work, they get abused by their husbands, and if they married, their husband gets all of their property (think of monopoly)

Dorothea Dix agreed to teach people in Prison, and her kindness lead to reform movement. The reform movement was about treating the mentally ill, and other inmates being imprisoned for being in debt. Also, Kids being jailed with adults, and mentally ill inmates being whipped and beaten. Dix created mental hospitals for the mentally ill, outlawed cruel punishments, discounteing debtor prisons, etc.

In the mid-1800's, Horace Mann, the father of American public schools spoke about the importantance of public schools. Reformers saw education as a escape to poverty and crime. Most kids can't go to public school because it was expensive, but Mann made it affordable and people paid taxes to build better schools, pay higher salaries to teachers, etc.

A temperance movement is against drink excessive amounts of alcohol, and/or supports enacting laws to reduce availability of alcohol. This movement sprang us between the American Revolution and the Civil War. The people who supports the temperance movement believe it will improve people's diets, fashion, mental ill care, end to slavery, abstinence, etc.

This happened because working conditions were unsafe and horrible. Even young kids worked in those conditions. This reform is against child labor and harmful working conditions. Labor unions are formed to help protect workers and women in a town in Massachusetts.
