We left Portland at 2 a.m.
Our goal was to start shooting at sunrise on a Sunday morning in April 2017. Sounded like a great idea until I had to wake up but off we went. We arrived in Sisters Oregon hoping to get some coffee and maybe a bite to eat. We could only find a Dutch Bros coffee open and we were so glad we did.
It was very chilly so we tried to keep as warm as possible. Turns out that later I would be sweating and panting from hiking while Kayla kept trying to warm her fingers. When we planned this shoot, it was supposed to reach 60 degrees, but at sunrise, well, it is always coldest before the dawn.
Our first stop when we reached the bottom of the gorge by Smith Rock. Kayla hiked up to the rock while I stayed lazy and stayed at the bottom.
For our next spot a different look and the sun had finally reached a height over the surrounding hills to get down in the mini canyon. I love back light from the sun.
The most important shot of the day involved the flowing fabric, chiffon and a rock face. This hike up the side of the rock kicked my ass but when we arrived Kayla was saying she was cold. We know who was in better shape and it was not me.
