All students are required to sign a Computer Use Agreement prior to having their iPad configured and used. This form is completed by students in class or as part of student enrolment. Parents are required to sign this document as well. A copy of this is found in the student's diary.
The School uses the following mechanisms to ensure appropriate use of Internet technologies through its mobile device manager, ZuluDesk:
- A 24-hour restriction on adult content such as pornographic material.
- A whitelist of applications to be used when connected to the School’s network. All personal games and applications not on the School’s whitelist disappear when at school. This feature keeps students focused on educational content.
- Messages, FaceTime and the App Store are disabled during school hours.
Please note that with the nature of the Internet, no system is fool-proof; however, these are strong structures that put the safety of the children first.
There are times when restrictions need to be removed such as during family holidays and long periods of sickness. If this is required, parents need to contact the School to advise or email email@example.com. We will be able to temporarily disable the restrictions until the student returns.
Unnecessary Removal of Restrictions
It is possible for an iPad to have the restrictions removed, but only if the ZuluDesk Management Profile is deleted from the device itself. Students are not permitted to use their device if the profile is ever removed. The iPad is flagged on ZuluDesk and teachers are informed. The device will then need to be enrolled again.
If you would like to impose additional restrictions on your child’s iPad, please go to Settings and Restrictions. Here you can restrict age appropriate content for movies, for example and disable a selection of applications.
ZuluDesk Parent Application
ZuluDesk is the only mobile device manager that comes with a parent application. The parent application enables you to restrict applications out of school time. Parents are emailed with login details to the application upon enrolment. If you do not have login details, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
