Holden's I Phone alex hoertt and dorian dayton

“If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don’t feel like going into it if you want to know the truth.”

This song is all about a boy at school who no one knew was troubled, and one day he lashed out, and when people heard his background they began to understand why he was so difficult.

“What I really felt like, though, was committing suicide. I felt like jumping out the window.”

This song could really resonate with him when he’s feeling down and depressed.

“Aah go back to sleep. I’m not gonna join one anyway. The kind of luck I have, I’d probably join one with all the wrong kind of monks in it. All stupid bastards. Or just bastards.”

He obviously isn’t much of a religious person since he also says he is an atheist later in the chapter, so he would probably like this song since about war caused by religion and all the people killed in the name of god.

“I put my red Hunting hat on, and turned the peak around the back, the way i liked it, and the i yelled t the top of my goddam voice, ‘sleep tight, ya morons!’ I’ll bet i woke up every bastard on the whole floor. Then i got the hell out.”

This song is about leaving behind past acquaintances that only kept you back. When he leaves pencey, he feels free of all his old “phony” friends, and he is on his own.

“If you sat there long enough and heard all the phonies applauding and all, you got to hate everyone in the world, I swear you did.”

The definition of the word Misanthrope is quite literally “hatred of all mankind”. Holden seems to feel that way a lot of the time, and i think he would like the lyrics to the chorus.

Hater of all mankind

There is some hope

For those who own their mind

They came, they saw and acknowledged

Some good, some bad

Opinion: Dangerous

“It was a funny thing to say. It sounded like a real kid. You'd think a prostitute and all would say "Like hell you are" or "Cut the crap" instead of "Like fun you are."

In chapter 13 he very blatantly “defies the laws of tradition”, by ordering a prostitute at age 16. He then continues to be judgemental of her despite the abnormality of his own situation.

“Anyway, I'm sort of glad they've got the atomic bomb invented. If there's ever another war, I'm going to sit right the hell on top of it. I'll volunteer for it, I swear to God I will.”

The way he expresses his willingness to engage in war and certain death is pretty unsettling. Sometimes it makes me believe Holden really is crazy. No sane person would truly wish for something like this

“That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "Fuck you" right under your nose.”

This song is about loss of innocence in the face of fame, due to drugs, women, etc., and trying to find your old better self again. This quote by Holden accentuates just how easy it is to lose one’s innocence, which sometimes can be for the worse, in his case his bad mouth compulsive behavior, and in the band’s case drug and sex addiction.

“Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.”

This song really exemplifies the feeling of loneliness and despair, and I feel like holden could identify with it. This quote shows how lonely he really is in the end, and that he misses people he confided in, and by doing so he’s only become, “something in the way”.

“Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.”

This song describes how Holden feels when he is all alone with no friends around. It talks about how friends can really cheer you up and what it feels like to not have them
