Sleepy Hollow Middle School Recognition Class of 2019

Sleepy Hollow Middle School eighth-graders marched into the Kusel Auditorium on June 24 to the sounds of Fanfare and Processional performed by the Sleepy Hollow Band. The students felt proud and accomplished as they completed their middle school years.

Principal Joshua Whitham welcomed them and explained how they wouldn't have all the answers during their first month at Sleepy Hollow High School. “You are not going to find your college, your significant other. Take time and follow where the path will lead you.”

School Superintendent Christopher Borsari spoke of the many accomplishments of the class including leadership, their commitment to the environment and service to others. He challenged them to think about the school community they want to build in the future. “Engage in kindness. It has such an overwhelming effect on the school and you.”

During the ceremony, the SHMS Chorus performed, “You Will Be Found” and then the students gave their parents and families a round of applause to thank them for all their support. They laughed and cheered as they watched a video montage of their memories.

The students also created a time capsule - with letters, fidget spinners and yearbooks, a snapshot of sixth, seventh and eighth grade - to be opened in 2023 when they are high school seniors.

Awards were presented to students for excellence and then the moment everyone was waiting for – the distribution of certificates!

The Class of 2019 quickly became the Class of 2023 welcomed by SHHS Principal Dr. Tracy Smith who said she was proud to accept the class.

Now comes the time for a fresh start and new opportunities!

Congratulations SHMS Class of 2019.
