Jim Crow Assesment By: Chris Alallam

During the Jim Crow era, Black people were set up to fail, and kept on getting bills passed against them so that they do not seem human.

There was a law passed in Florida that prohibited black and white kids to go to school together. The white kids and their parents didn't want to go to school. White people had an image implanted into their brains from everyone else that black peoples are bad which causes the white community to have and demand seperate schools for their children.

An Alabama law states that all passenger stations in this state operated by any motor transportation company shall have separate waiting rooms or space and separate ticket windows for the white and colored races. This shows that white people are so disgusted by black people, they can't even sit with black people. It diminishes the standard of black people because white people feel so supreme that they can't sit next to black people

Child Custody

A law in South Carolina stated,"It shall be unlawful for any parent, relative, or other white person in this State, having the control or custody of any white child, by right of guardianship, natural or acquired, or otherwise, to dispose of, give or surrender such white child permanently into the custody, control, maintenance, or support, of an African American." Even if a white person had a vast heart and wanted to help a black person, they wouldn't be allowed. The white people are allowewing themselves to take more from African Americans which the white people take for granted

This would be very rare

Black peoples had trouble getting and maintaining jobs during the Jim Crow era.

Unemployment rates varied between whites and blacks. Blacks were more susceptible to becoming unemployed. Even when poverty rates were down, black people were still the majority of unemployed people. If a black person got a job, he was more likely to be paid less. Especially in teaching if you scroll down.

Average salaries for teaching were different between whites and blacks (Whites earned more). This because white people had an advantage in society. With a bad salary, the black people may not be able to afford as much and may have to quit their job to find a better one. That may be even harder. As you can tell from above, blacks will not be able to get a job as easily and may be discriminated while attempting

Job Discrimination

People were most discriminative towards black people about working. Black people were more discriminated against, and with the troubles stated above, times were extremely hard to work and provide for a family. However, that's not it black people were also in trouble socially which could make the work environment extremely tougher and they may not appreciate their job because the atmosphere is so bad. In spite, they would have to stay there because it was so hard to fined a well paying job that gives enough support that enables you to provide for your family.

Social and Cultural

Society made white people seem superior towards blacks. They made Black people put into a lesser perspective towards them

There were separate things for everything public, separated by black people and white people. The white people chose to separate themselves because they felt as if they were better

Black people had to sit in the back of busses because white people feel more superior. The whit people at the time had the audacity to make themselves feel as if they were on an elevated level because they were white.

Notice how white people are in the front and black in the back

Black people got lynched for talking to a white woman. This is because everyone will think that the black person raped her. To Kill a Mokingbird is a good book that portrays this extremely well. Tom Robinson got kissed by Mayella Ewell and got ruled guilty for rape.
