20 day Route Okavango Delta Botswana to southern kalahari south africa
- The Kalahari Desert is a large semi-arid sandy savanna in Southern Africa extending for 900,000 square kilometres (350,000 sq mi), covering much of Botswana, parts of Namibia and regions of South Africa. This route will traverse this stretch of land called the Kalahari basis, where two of the most recognized names, Okavango Delta and Kalahari in African tourism exists. It also start and end at two of Africa's big and iconic rivers, the Chobe, in Botswana and Oranje River, in South Africa. In-between a wonderland of well preserved wildlife destination, indeed a must see and do destination. Most of this Route will be done camping, to get closer to nature and further away from civilization.
- This Route operates March - August and are scheduled back to back in reverse.
- Day 1: Kasane (North Eastern Botswana)
- Group meet in Kasane / pick up from airport accommodation at guest house in Kasane / briefing of the trip on a late afternoon game-drive on the mighty Chobe River.
- Day 2: Kasane to Lynyanti (Chobe National Park)
- Linyanti is situated in the northern corner of the Chobe National Park. The Linyanti Swamp is one of the most attractive areas in the park. It boasts a great diversity of game and a restful atmosphere. / Accommodation - camping
- Day 3 & 4: Linyanti to Savuti (Chobe National Park)
- Savute, a remote and wild corner of Chobe National Park, stretches from the park’s northern boundaries to the Linyanti River. The area’s main feature is the mysterious Savuti Channel, which flows and dries up seemingly unrelated to the rainfall. Large numbers of wildlife have been attracted to this rejuvenated wilderness haven

- Day 5 & 6: Kwai / North Gate (Moremi Game Reserve)
- Moremi Game Reserve covers much of the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and combines permanent water with drier areas, which create some startling and unexpected contrasts. In the Moremi Reserve one can experience excellent views of Savannah game as well as bird-watching on the lagoons. There are also thickly wooded areas, which are home to the Cape wild dog and leopard. Accommodation - camping
- Day 7: Maun
- Maun is a town at the southern end of the Okavango Delta and the heart of the tourism hub of this part of Botswana. This our stop over before we explore the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Accommodation - guest chalet 2 person sharing
- Day 8,9,10: Deception Valley / Sunday Pan (Central Kalahari Game Reserve)
- The Central Kalahari Game Reserve covers a large section of central Botswana. Its harsh, sprawling terrain is dominated by grasslands, home to wildlife such as giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas and wild dogs. There are several fossilized river valleys, including Deception Valley and Passarge Valley, sunday Pans which offer basic camp sites. Dirt tracks wind south through the reserve's remote landscapes to the Piper’s Pan area. Accommodation - camping
- Day 11: Ghanzi
- Ghanzi is the economic hub of Western Botswana region. This will be used for refuelling and replenishing of food and necessaries. Accommodation - guest chalet 2 persons sharing
- Day 12: Kang
- Kang is a village in Kgalagadi District of Botswana. It is situated in the Kalahari Desert and lies on the Trans-Kalahari Highway between Ghanzi in the north and Sekoma in the south. This is also the gateway to the Southern Kalahari, Mabuasehube Reserve and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Accommodation - guest chalet 2 persons sharing
- Day 13,14,15: Mabuasehube Game Reserve
- The Mabuasehube Game Reserve is located in the Kalahari Desert covering an area of almost 2,000 sq. km. The unforgiving desert terrain is characterised by high red dunes and scattered vegetation. The rustic camp-sites are unfenced and do not have electricity or running water. . Those who visit the reserve will discover a dramatic and contrasted landscape.. The main attractions at Mabuasehube are the large salt pans, which are all divided by sand dunes. Accommodation - camping
- Day 16,17,18: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
- Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a vast wildlife preserve in the Kalahari Desert region of Botswana and South Africa, bordering Namibia to the west. It’s characterized by red dunes and dry rivers. Wildlife includes migrating herds of wildebeest and springbok, plus predators like raptors and black-maned Kalahari lions.Where the red dunes and scrub fade into infinity and herds of gemsbok, springbok, eland and blue wildebeest follow the seasons, where imposing camel thorn trees provide shade for huge black-mane lions and vantage points for leopard and many raptors... this is the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
- Day 19: Upington (Northern Cape / South Africa)
- Upington will be your farewell to the friends you have made, this amazing wilderness between 2 rivers, leaving you with thousands of memories you collected Accommodation - guest chalet 2 persons sharing

- Dropp off at the Upington airport for flight to Johannesburg or Cape Town.
