5. Winfield Scott replaced Taylor as the new commander. 6. By August 1847, Scoot had reached Mexico City,
7. Scott wanted to attack Mexico City. 8. The war with Mexico had cost the United States nearly $98 million.
9. Several of the Texas rangers who joined the U.S army served as scouts. 10. After winning a few battles Taylor began an offensive.
