Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year Welcome Back!

It has been an awesome first start to the school year. It was so nice to see the students excited to begin a new year. We jumped right in with worksites this week. All worksites will be in house for the first 4 weeks and then we will transition to both in house and community placed worksites. I am excited to announce two new worksites this year. We will be working with a fabulous business called D’Vine Cookies located in Ferndale. Our students will be putting together the boxes for shipping. D’Vine Cookies has partnered with JVS (Jewish Vocational Services) in the past. They are eager to have us and we look forward to learning a new job skill. I was able to taste a sugar cookie and it was yummy. The second worksite is the creation of a new store here at Jardon. The official grand opening of the “Jardon General Store” will be at the end of September with our Fall Flower and Greenhouse sale. This store will sell vintage used goods, Jardon students’ created goods and new goods. It will be open to the public and is located at the back of the school near the Greenhouse. We hope you will join us during the Grand opening and think of us when you need a unique gift, card, planter, select clothing items, packaged food items and/or other household items. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any Transition needs.

The overall theme of this year’s Social Emotional Learning time will be Resiliency.

Through the use of the Apps: Headspace and The Daily Calm; Mr Bellini and Ms Renkiewicz (Ms. R) will guide the students through relaxation techniques and discussions to increase their personal growth in Resiliency: relaxation, empowerment (personal choice-making/control of their environment in a positive manner), and self-regulation.

September: Back to basics- fundamentals of relaxation and vocabulary of feelings .

Please remember that there are alway relaxation and meditation exercises on the SEL Google Classroom.

Dear Parents,

As we begin a new school year, let’s talk about some ways that may help our children adapt to changes in our daily life and school caused by COVID19!

Parents and Caregivers are faced with helping their families adjust to all the changes facing our society these days.

None of this is easy! But it’s important to reinforce a sense of control and reassure your children that they are okay.

It’s important to remember that children look to trusted adults at home and at school for guidance on how to react to stressful events. Teaching children positive, preventive measures along with talking about their fears can help reduce any anxiety they may have.

This presents a wonderful opportunity for adults to model problem solving, flexibility and compassion as we all work through adjusting schedules, balancing work, school and other activities. We must learn to be creative about how we spend our time and process information from authorities, while connecting and supporting friends and family in new ways.

Next week we will continue with some helpful tips. HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK!

Sincerely,
