James Studer Owner and C.E.O of OctoProps

19-year-old James Studer is the founder of OctoProps; a company that creates props and costumes from popular shows, movies, and videogames. He makes his products by hand at his workshop beside his home in Oshawa, Ontario.

In the following interview, James discusses what OctoProps does and how he got started as well as his favourite parts about the business.

James founded the company in 2015, following his love for prop-making by going straight into it once he finished high school. His accolades include doing contract work for the Titanfall 2 cinematic trailer and the game’s opening sequence, as well as work for Blizzard Entertainment and Uber.

After two years of business James is about to break even, and is excited for what the future holds.

“I just see us getting bigger from here, we’re able to do things so quickly and get them done at the best they’ll ever be. Over the past year we’ve grown so much through followers and our number of orders.”

He sells his products on this Etsy platform, but plans to switch to his own website soon.
