Keep Those Knees Toasty The rug was a massive symbol for the people that practiced Islam. Because they took so long and were so tedious to make and design they were very expensive. This people want them as a status symbol. The people used them as a place to kneel and pray because the didn't want to sit on the hard floor. It was believed that if you prayed on your carpet you would be relpayed in the afterlife.
