Enochdhu to Bridge of Cally 19 March 2017

Everybody started their respective walks at Enochdhu to walk along the Cateran Trail to Bridge of Cally by their own choice of route. One small group took their time and stuck to the Trail, while the rest walked together as far as Woodhill, before splitting.

Making good progress, the main group stopped for a tea break, while checking in to see how the slower party was getting on.

The weather was quite kind for March and, despite a few showers, it was warm, and the sun came out more consistently as the day wore on.

The Trail was well marked.

All along the route there were frog sightings which kept us entertained as they were quite active. We also saw a few deer further on.

At Woodhill the main group split in two, with one group taking a detour via Loch Charles and Loch Benachally before looping round to approach Bridge of Cally from the South.

The remaining 9 carried on to Croft of Blackcraig where we diverted SE through the woods, looping round and rejoining the Cateran Trail heading north from Blairgowrie to Bridge of Cally.

The Trail was extremely muddy in sections, but the signs, helpfully, only pointed out the obstacles for those heading North, after we had navigated past them. This also applied in one section where forestry operations were ongoing, and it was only after we had passed them that the road was barred.

Getting back to the Bridge of Cally hotel, we met up with the more leisurely walkers and headed in for a well earned drink. Those who had split off for the longer detour found their progress slowed by thick heather, and arrived back only in time to get back on to the coach to head home.
