TCS organized the Trilateral Local Government Dialogue on Crested Ibis on Jan. 25, 2019 at the TCS, Seoul, the ROK with the aim to develop institutionalized and substantial trilateral cooperation on crested ibis among the relevant local governments of the three countries. Local government officials from Shaanxi Provincial Government of China, Niigata Prefecture Government, Sado City Government of Japan, Gyeongnam Provincial Government, Changnyeong County Government of the ROK, as well as Mr. QIN Zi, Secretary-General of Crested Ibis International Forum attended the Dialogue. From the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), Secretary-General LEE Jongheon and Deputy Secretary-General YAMAMOTO Yasushi attended the dialogue.
SG LEE delivered the Opening Remarks at the opening ceremony by emphasizing the significance and potential of crested ibis related cooperation in promoting not only biodiversity and environment protection but also economic development of local city, enrichment of culture and improvement of people’s life of the three countries, etc. In this context, he highlighted the crucial role of local governments where crested ibis inhabits and suggested setting up institutional and sustainable platform among these local governments to enhance mutual cooperation on facilitating this promising agenda.
At the dialogue, the local government officials introduced the protection and breeding activities of crested ibis in each country and had in-depth discussion on the specific areas and measures of promoting mutual exchange and cooperation among the three local governments. Participants also exchanged views on the co-organization of the 2nd Crested Ibis International Forum in 2019.
