Welcome to the first edition of The Beacon

Discover St John's news, a behind the scenes look into our Funding Support Programme, and other hidden gems.

Our newsletter can act as a platform for our partners to share the impact of their work; please do get in touch if there is something you would like us to feature in the next edition of The Beacon.

Introduction

As CEO of St John's Foundation, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the first edition of The Beacon.

At St John's, we are incredibly fortunate to not only have a talented and dedicated team, but also the opportunity to support and work alongside some of our community's most innovative and inspiring organisations.

I am therefore delighted that each edition of The Beacon will reveal the impact we are making as a charity, and also the difference local organisations are having upon the lives of thousands of people in our community.

It is our pleasure to share news from across St John's, which includes the Action Against Child Poverty Campaign, funding a unique programme, delivered in collaboration by six charities to reduce the impact of deprivation on children and their families. Once again, I have been persuaded(!) to join the St John's Bath Half Marathon team which will support this vital programme. Our Just Giving Page is live, and donations are very much welcome.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued engagement and support, and wish you all the best for December, Christmas and the New Year.

Warm wishes,

David Hobdey - CEO, St John's Foundation

News around St John's...

Action Against Child Poverty

Action Against Child Poverty's 'Lifestyle Change Programme' celebrated two years of delivery at a special networking event in our Chapel last month.

The Programme, which has been funded by the AACP campaign is delivered by six charities working in partnership to reduce the effects of deprivation for children and their families.

It has made a positive direct impact on 80 families, and continues to demonstrate the benefits and opportunities of working in partnership.

To support the programme as it enters its final year, St John's is once again putting together a 2019 Bath Half Team, and there are still places remaining. To join us, please contact victoria.dulley@stjohnsbath.org.uk.

The Bath Women's Fund

On Thursday 4th October, over fifty women gathered in The Chapel of St Michael's Within to launch the Bath Women's Fund, a new approach to philanthropy in Bath and North East Somerset through collective giving. Inspiring local female role models including Councillor Karen Walker, Professor Carole Mundell, Amy Williams MBE, Wera Hobhouse MP and Sharron Davies MBE spoke about the power of women coming together to give and support others in their community.

Meeting the Need

Each quarter we invite you behind the scenes of St John's, to discover more about the support we provide and the impact of our work in the community. In this edition, we are delighted to shine a light on our Funding Support Programme.

Our Funding Support Programme

Our dynamic Funding Support Programme delivers vital funding to organisations and individuals across Bath and the surrounding area, enabling our community to build resilience during increasingly challenging times.

Over the last few years, there have been major changes which have had a detrimental impact on the lives of thousands of local people. To ensure we support those who are most in need, we have evolved and adapted our programme.

Our robust process ensures we maximise our impact and evolve in response to the changing needs of our community.

Our impact in 2018

By the end of 2018, our Funding Support Programme will have awarded £2m, supporting tens of thousands of people across Bath and the surrounding area.

To date, our Organisation Funding Programme has supported 111 charitable projects, with over half of the awards delivering much needed support to people living outside of the City of Bath.

Our Individual Funding Programme has directly supported over 1,000 people who have been experiencing some form of crisis. We are happy to continue receiving applications from professional referrers up until 17th December.

What's next for 2019?

In 2019, St John’s will award a further £2.12m to organisations and individuals in crisis. Our Funding Support Programme will re-open on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.
