NWEA Testing Starts Tomorrow with a Pancake Breakfast!
NWEA testing kicks off tomorrow with a pancake breakfast provided to all our CP students, courtesy of our JPAC. Pancakes will be served from 8:00-8:45, so come hungry! Testing will be occurring throughout the week in the areas of Reading, Language, Math and Science. NWEA testing is done three times per year to measure growth and to help determine appropriate placement in classes. It's important students give their best effort!
JPAC Meeting Update
JPEC Parent Advisory Committee (JPAC) will be holding their first general meeting for the 2019 - 2020 school year on Monday, September 16th in JW 158 (the Early College building) from 5:30 pm - 7 pm. We are excited to get parents involved and will have both volunteer information as well as interest sheets, so we can match parent strengths to projects. Please... if your strength is "let me know what I can donate," we'd love for you to come to the meeting so we know we can reach out to you for support. If you are interested in being involved and cannot attend, please reach out to our Development Coordinator, Alex Ulicny, at firstname.lastname@example.org. There is no fee to participate in the JPAC!
Count Day - October 2nd
The first student count day will be Wednesday, October 2nd. Please avoid scheduling vacations or appointments at that time as it is very important to have all students present for count day. Thank you!
If your student received a device with a case that is too large, please bring it to the office this week to exchange it for a smaller one. Thank you.
Pizza sales will begin this Wednesday, September 11 during lunch. This year, we will be selling pepperoni or cheese pizza from Klavon's! There has been a slight change in the cost, however. Slices will be $2.00 each, without a price cut for the second piece. Funds raised from pizza sales go towards CP programming and special events.
Important Points of Information
Please note that the school day hours have changed slightly. We still begin at 9:00 a.m., but our day concludes at 3:55 p.m. this year instead of 4:30 p.m. The office will be open daily at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. Please be sure to have students picked up prior to the office closing.
Drop Off and Pick Up: The EIC has a "U" shaped driveway around the building with a parking lot in back. Please follow the arrows indicating directional traffic, as we have one entrance on the north side of the building and one exit on the south side. If you are dropping off or picking up, please use the right lane closest to the building upon entering the parking lot. The sidewalk extends the full length of he building, so students can be dropped off safely at any point. At the end of the day, teachers will escort classes outside and remain with them during pick up time. When exiting, or driving through to park in the back lot, please use the left lane and circle around to the south side of the building to keep traffic flowing. There will most likely be a line extending out into the access road in front of the EIC, but this is to be expected and your patience is appreciated. For the safety of our students, please do not try to bypass the line to get through quicker, and proceed slowly through the parking lot. Students are asked to stay on the sidewalk in front of the building instead of walking out to the road to meet their rides. Please be patient as we work through any traffic issues that are unforeseen at this time.
Morning Program: To help meet the needs of our families, we are offering morning program again this year. A teacher will be on-site Monday-Friday from 8:00-8:45 a.m. to be with students who need to dropped off early. It is very important that CP students stay at the EIC and report to the designated classroom for morning program. CP students are not allowed to wander the JC campus or walk to the Early College building without permission. The morning program classroom will be posted on the welcome board in the entryway daily.
Lockers: Within our new space, one of the added benefits is lockers for students. They are small lockers, but more than adequate to hold a coat, backpack and lunch daily. With limited space in our classrooms, students are asked not to bring backpacks to class. Please ensure lockers are kept clean and organized, free of writing, stickers or anything permanent of any kind. The new combination locks may take some getting used to, but don't worry...you'll get the hang of it!
Lunch: Our daily lunch will be from 12:09-12:39. As usual, if it is above 50 degrees and weather permits, we will all be outside. Please dress accordingly. When inside, we will have designated lunch areas. Because there is carpet in our new facility, please be extra careful with food and drink. We have four microwaves available for use, and our school store will be open daily in the EIC, just as it was last year in JW. As always, please pick up all leftover food and trash to keep things clean.
Recess: This year, we will utilize a 15 minute recess in the morning and another 15 minutes in the afternoon. We believe this is a fantastic chance for our students to get a brain break and get some energy out. As long as weather permits, recess will be outside daily. A change for this year is that we will not be allowing food or drink in the classrooms as has been permitted in the past. Students will have two recess breaks and a 30 minute lunch break in order to have a snack. We will still allow water in the classrooms, as long as it is unsweetened and unflavored. This rule will be strictly enforced.

Cell Phones In Class
Just a reminder to all CP students and families: cell phones are not permitted in class. You may check your phones during recess or at lunch, but they must remain off or on silent and in lockers during class time.
Parents: Please be sure to call the front office as soon as possible in the morning if your child is ill and is going to be absent. It is important for us to be able to keep accurate attendance records, and this will help! The office phone # is 768-7093. If your student is absent due to a medical or dental appointment, please bring a doctor's note so we can excuse the absence. Thank you!
