Ode to the Sun Yoga under the sun part one

Ready to do some yoga?

After you've taken a moment to tune into your breath and have warmed up a bit, give these poses a try!

Mountain Pose

Standing tall like a mountain, take a few breaths here, notice the ground/floor beneath you and try to stand as tall as you can without sticking your ribs or tummy out. How do you feel?

Standing Back Bend

Standing back bend with hands over head.

From Mountain pose, lift your arms over head, or place them on your hips, and take a slight back bend. Looking up, take a few breaths here. Note that your back bend might look very different from someone else's and that's fine. Only bend as much as feels comfortable for you.

STANDING FORWARD FOLD

From standing, take a breath and raise your arms over your head, exhale and hinge at your hips, 'folding' forward, reach for your toes, your shins or the floor.

Again, everyone will look slightly different in this pose! It's ok to change the pose so that its comfortable for you.

Next, let's try Downward Facing Dog!

Doga!
Ready?

From a forward fold, place your hands down flat on your mat, towards the top of the mat. Then step your feet back, towards the back of the mat, try to make an upside down V with your body. Keep your arms as straight as you can, pressing your hands into the mat and try to let your head and neck relax. You can keep your knees bent, or try straightening your legs any amount. Also try moving your heels towards the mat, any amount, one at a time, and then together at the same time.

You can also try getting into downward facing dog from table top, just follow these instructions.

You can try holding this pose for a few breaths, or come in and of the pose like above. What do you think?

WE'LL BE LEARNING 4 POSES A WEEK AND THEN WE'LL PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER AND LEARN HOW TO DO A SUN SALUTATION!
