VOICES FROM WITHIN

2013-2017 CO-FOUNDER, COORDINATOR

Working in tandem with DOCCS Acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci, Superintendent Michael Capra, and NBC Dateline Producer Dan Slepian on Voices From Within.The Voices From Within Project is a comprehensive multimedia and education initiative that uniquely addresses the epidemic of gun violence directly through the voices of inmates living with the consequences of their choices, and the victims left in their wake.

TEDX SING SING

  • Responsible for preparation and management of an independently organized TED event held for the first time in a New York State prison with a theme centered upon "Creating Healthy Communities"

FORGOTTEN VOICES

2011-2016 CO-FOUNDER, BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Originated the Forgotten Voices gun buy-back initiative at Sing Sing to develop a Prison/Community Connection with NYS Senators, clergy, community leaders, and non-profit organizations, raising almost $8,000 with prisoner wages to address rampant inner-city violence.

STRATEGIC PARTNERS WORKSHOP

Organized and participated in the Hudson Link/National Organization for Higher Education in Prison Strategic Partner Workshop and voluntarily compiled the necessary data to prepare a "Summary Report" that is currently being utilized in the furtherance of this objective.

Collaborative Fundraising

  • 8.2.16: As Co-Chairman of a "special fundraiser," donated $1,500 to the Creative Corrections Education Foundation developed specifically to support a college scholarship fund that provides I00% of the proceeds collected by inmates to the children of incarcerated parents.
  • 2009-2016: As chairman of the Inmate Liaison Committee, and later as president of the Latinos Unidos Organization, assisted staff from the Office of Mental Health at Sing Sing with financing, planning, and organizing annual events to recognize members of the population who suffer from mental disabilities in the ICP, CORP and Tri­ICP programs.
  • 2012-2013: Acquiring facility approval at Sing Sing to establish a Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund to help offset some of the damages incurred by the residents of New York.
  • 2007-2011: Under the capacity of the Inmate liaison Committee in conjunction with JayCees, conducting an annual Back to School Project which provides the children of incarcerated men and women with school supplies in an effo1t to lessen the hardship on the families who take care of them.
  • 2007-2010: Under the capacity of the Inmate liaison Committee, contributing $1,500 annually to assist the Osborne Association in purchasing Christmas gifts for the children of incarcerated men in Sing Sing.
  • 2007: Under the capacity of the Inmate Liaison Committee in conjunction with JayCees, the Latinos Unidos Organization, and the men of Sing Sing, raising an approximate total of $5,600 for an organization called Freeport Pride Inc., who were assisting a young female victim of a drive-by shooting in obtaining a custom van due to her paralysis.
  • 2004: Under the capacity of Project Build Inc. in Green Haven raising over $3,000 for Hour Children, an organization devoted toward the shelter and care for the children of incarcerated mothers until their return to society.
