Union Point Site-Wide Integrated Controls for Operations and Utilities 2018 Smart Infrastructure Challenge

This Union Point project seeks to pursue an integrated operational controls system for the development which will play a central role in achieving both smart city and sustainability goals as well as differentiating the development on a global level.

Union Point is a new city rising in Greater Boston with the mission of enhancing the human experience. Located at the point where the towns of Weymouth, Rockland and Abington, Mass. unite, Union Point offers on-site access to public transportation, 10 million sq. ft. of commercial space, more than 4,000 units of affordably-priced housing, and 1,000 acres of open space. Union Point has undergone a complete rezoning and redesign that created the vision of a new smart city, including commercial, residential, entertainment, and recreation uses on site.
Being developed as a smart city with a focus on technology, sustainability and architectural beauty, Union Point is redefining typical smart city methodology by placing equal importance on education, creative arts and culture, and inclusivity.
Union Point is striving to become a precedent setting development not only in the United States, but also on a global level. One of the central goals of this effort is in the area of smart cities.

The site-wide control system focuses on integrating fiber infrastructure, metering and buildings systems, energy and water treatment plants, and centralized and decentralized operations for the benefit of creating an innovative / unique ground for understanding how complex city infrastructure operate and can improve the quality of life in the community.

When completed, the integrated operational controls system developed at Union Point will create a repeatable blueprint for the integrated implementation of smart city initiatives for others to follow.
