DOMINICAN ATHLETICS 2016 men's soccer year in review

The 2016 Fall season saw the Stars post a 12-2-4 overall record, going 9-0-1 in the NACC to claim the Stars' tenth NACC championship in the conference's 11-year history. The Stars closed out the season on a 15-match unbeaten streak, going 12-0-3 during the stretch with eight shutouts along the way.
Alex Rohder | Junior | Orland Park, Ill.

Alex Rohder was named the 2016 NACC Defensive Player of the Year after the junior helped the Stars to post a conference best 0.64 goals against average with ten shutouts. Following the season, the NSCAA named Rohder to the All-Central Region First Team. The Orland Park native logged five goals in 17 games played while anchoring the Dominican University backline.

Gabriel Gongora | Senior | Naperville, Ill.

Gabriel Gongora closed out a tremendous career with the Stars, earning Scholar All-America honors from the NSCAA after landing on the NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team and All-NACC First Team. Gongora logged a 0.68 goals against average in over 1,500 minutes in goal with the Stars, collecting eight shutouts along the way.

Isaac Perez | Freshman | Elgin, Ill.

The Stars' Isaac Perez was voted the NACC Freshman of the Year after the Elgin native posted 17 points for his rookie season with four goals and nine assists. Perez was voted to the All-NACC Second Team and headlined the NACC's 2016 All-Freshman Team.

Jonathan Arzeta | Junior | Des Plaines, Ill.

Jonathan Arzeta, named to the 2016 All-Central Region Second Team and All-NACC First Team, may have been Dominican's top offensive threat as a goal scorer and a distributor. The junior midfielder from Elk Grove High School logged five goals and eight assists for a total of 18 points in 18 games. Arzeta put better than 44-percent of his 61 shots on the season on goal.

The 2016 season marked a return to the top of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference for the Stars, winning their first outright conference championship since 2012 and the program's tenth NACC championship in 11 seasons. Dominican's rise to the top of the regular season standings, garnered NACC Coach of the Year honors for head coach Erick Baumann for the sixth time in conference history.
