Teacher Spotlight Jennifer Bailey

Jennifer Bailey is a teacher in the middle school. She teaches seventh grade English.

Jennifers background on her family:

"I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for 20 years. We have three children: Bethany, John David, and Breanna. We also have the most precious granddaughter, BaeLynn Grace. We are currently adjusting to "empty nest". Luckily, we have 4 dogs to keep us entertained."

Why did you choose education as your career choice?

"I was inspired by my high school English teacher, Mrs. Pace. She was a true motivator and pushed her students to want and achieve more. I wanted to be like her and do the same."

what is the title of you favorite book OR favorite book you like to read to your classes?

"I love reading Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry with my kids. They learn so much from this time period and what struggles the people went through. They always want to read more, and can't wait to find out what happens next. The fact that the main character is a spunky girl, their age, keeps them interested in what she will say next."

What is your favorite school event/part of the school year? Why?

"There are so many things I enjoy about the school year, so picking a favorite is hard. I love the fact that Mt. Vernon is very school spirited and support every organization from athletics, cheer, FFA, OAP, and UIL. Our kids are very talented and each organization doesn't go unnoticed."

What is the number one lesson you want your students to know when they leave your class?

"To leave with the desire "to want more for themselves". To know they have their futures in their hands and to push themselves to achieve their very best."

What do you do outside of school? Hobbies? Interests?

"I love spending time with my family and friends. Jeff and I have a Harley we enjoy riding, especially in the fall when the weather is perfect and the foliage is beautiful."

Anything you want others to know about you?

"This is my 21 year of teaching 7th graders and this is my 13 year at Mt. Vernon."
