Be Informed Know Your Risk

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) in July 2020 issued a color bar chart (as seen above) that stratified how risky some social and work related activities can be during the time of the COVID-19. The simplicity of this visual is stunning. From top to bottom it gives the viewer a quick order for knowing activity risk. Texas, the state, in this time frame is under tremendous pressure to identify and reduce the situations that spread the disease. Their effort to restart an economy has taken a step back but hopefully visuals like the one provided by the TMA will educate residents to know the risk they take. BE INFORMED - KNOW THE RISK.

Moderate to Low Risk

Risk - The PGA season got moving in June 2020 partly due to the moderate to low risk nature of it;s sport, Golf. Of course Gallery crowds as seen here are no longer a part of the weekly events. Golf courses across the nation have installed measures to allow golfing to resume much to the pleasure of weekend hackers. What’s missing is the 19th hole in the clubhouse. The bar/restaurant atmosphere.

Moderate to Low Risk

I never saw it go in

Playing golf - but not watching it in a gallery crowd

MODERATE RISK

Going to the beach is ranked by the Texas Medical Association as a moderate risk for citizens of their state. As is should be in all states. This shoreline Egret shows good sense to provide a measure of social distance from the beachgoers at the Gulf of Mexico.

Moderate to High Risk

Eating inside in a restaurant

The alternative is outdoor seating.

Many communities have converted or closed streets to allow for outside eating. Served in public areas by local restaurants and bars where patrons can carryout and eat in a socially distant setting. Imagine from this scene about 1/2 of the tables removed and the stage set for local music - it’s not quite a street party but rather a sensible approach to not eating INSIDE at a restaurant. All the while supporting a return to opening businesses during the pandemic.

High Risk Events

Conventions, amusement parks, sports stadiums, bars and music concerts

A return to normal will happen but a fan filled football stadium will be one of the last venue events to experience this return.

Playing the sport might not be a risky as viewing the sport

Who would believe that 3 months later this type of gathering changed.

It looks good and taste great too. Drinking and Eating at buffets or in crowded restaurant-bar-grill location with capacities exceeding over 50% is a high ranked risk according to the Texas Medical Association.

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts

Outdoor seating - Image trying to social distance here on the grass venue

This large summer outdoor concert scene captured well before the onset of COVID-19 will once again return. Until then states across the country will head public health officials advice to not convene such concert events. It is among the most highly rated of all possible risky situations to spread the disease.

Other High Risk Venues

When’s the last time you’ve seen or eaten at a buffet.

The Bar Scene

Cold beer might be only 9 steps away but a crowded bar scene will be the a long time in the making.

Lucy and Ethel can’t believe what they see on the TMA’s BE INFORMED Know Your Risk chart. Should Ralph back out of his golf game?
